Default o ringing questions

i've read around and couldn't find a definative answer to these questions,
when o-ringing , do you oring the block or the head, or both?
what type of oring material should be used?
what type of gasket should be used?
how much boost will a built ls1 handle when oringed?
can local shops do it or do i have to have stuff shipped out?

You can o-ring the block OR the heads. Doing the block will provide you with the most benefits. Doing the heads is cheaper, but most people dont have too much luck with it holding as much power as it should.
The oring is made of some sort of metal wire. I believe its around .040 thick.
A copper gasket is best, but most use a graphite for ease of use. You cannot use a MLS gasket.
It will handle as much as you can throw at it until it starts lifting heads
If you have a good engine builder that is local, then it should be no problem to get the block o-ringed.

When o-ringing an engine with copper gaskets you cut a groove to insert the .040 diameter stainless wire into either the head or block leaving the wire protruding .013-.015 and you then cut a matching but slightly wider reciver groove in the mating surface for the copper gasket to be pressed into from the protruding wire. This is a bulletproof method, when used with Flat Out silicone coated copper gaskets coolant leaks are a thing of the past. If anyone needs this done let me know I have all the tooling and fixtures.

"O" Ringing the Heads has worked for a couple of people but "O" Ringing the block is the proper way to do it.

I just received my heads from TEA, I had them o-ringed. .041 stainless steel wire inserted into the heads. I'll be using a graphite gasket with this application . . . hopefully it will work for me!

You can o-ring the block OR the heads.
One or the other from what I've understood . . . not sure on the cometics, I don't see why not. AFAIK the only gasket you can't use is the GM MLS.

If you get the block o-ringed, then the heads get a receiver groove machined in them.

If you get the heads o-ringed, then that is all you do afaik
