Default What's your engine cost?

I've been playing around with the idea of replacing the engine this winter. But I came up with a dollar amount and found out to do it right was gonna cost double what I had alotted. Just curious what kind of change you guy dropped on your engine and if you were happy, what you liked, what you didn't, and so on. If you're willing give me a dollar amount and what you got for it. Then your reaction to the setup.

Thanks,
Mike

when I built mine, it only cost me about 2.3k for the short block. I already had the heads, used a motor I picked up for $50, and pulled the crank out of my current engine.

cyroed the crank
forged rods
forges pistons
race bearings
ported oil pump
coated pistons

1100 for the parts
and 1200 at machine shop

best of luck

I bought a few used parts.

6.0 block
Lunati 4.0 billet crank
Lunati 6.125 billet rods
Diamond 4.03 forged pistons
All new coated rod and main bearings
Some crappy LS1 heads that have been hogged out for bigger combustion chambers
244/250 620/630 112 cam
LS6 intake
Jessel shaft mount nonadjustable rockers
ARP head studs
Cometic 4.03 bore head gskts.
Set of NGK TR8 plugs

I have right at 3k in all of this. I did get a really good deal though. The motor makes 430rwhp and 550rwtq on motor through a TH400, 4000 stall, steel DS, and a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears.

On order at this moment.
317 castings 13.1:1 CR CNC heads
Kooks 2in Primary headers
This should bump up the HP alittle. I spray the car with 250 worth of bottle.

$4640 for the short block
$4600 for the blower
$695 for the 8 rib setup
$1600 for my fuel system
$1800 for heads
$400 for intake
$240 Head studs
$550 LT Headers

So $14525.... so a little under $15K with out adding in little stuff......... it may sound low, but you spent big bucks on that 4" crank and a F1 head unit.... and a stand alone PCM.... not needed here yet...... i probably wont even use what i have to its potentional for a few years......

I'm almost done with my 408. I'll have about $7500 plus gaskets in it. It has:
6.0L iron block, Lunati billit crank and rods, Lunati pistons, Comp cam, lifters, pushrods. Rollmaster double timing chain, Stage 3 6.0l heads. I'm looking for around 600rwhp on about 7 psi. with a D1sc. and pump gas.

4,000 in the blower
all the normal bolt ons, lid, jet hot headers, magnaflow exhaust, guesstimating 12-1500

that's it, for now. just lightened my wallet by 21 g's by purchasing a home.

throttle body, mild cam and pulley are next that should net me over 500 to the wheels with my automatic. I can honestly be happy with that for a while, until i have enough funds to do the bottom end, have the tranny built and put a 12 bolt.

gawd i need one of those money trees.

I'm still doing mine...

I'm spending less than I thought on heads.. I found out that some of the tricks like really raised runners don't matter as much on forced induction....

So far just a .30 over block with billet caps and ARPs holding them on.

I might have him 0-ring the the thing too..

Most the money will go into crank, rods, pistons....

I was just talking engine, not FMU or blower/turbo setup or anything, just the engine.

I was hoping to get something built for around$6K, but it looks like to get the engine I want, to do the things I want I'm loking at more like $12-13K. Man this **** is pricey. Makes you almost want to go out and just get a cobra where it's all done for you.... I said ALMOST

Out of curiosity, what do you want that is gonna cost $12-13k for just the motor? Are you wanting a C5r or something? Just seems kind of high is all.
