Dam Ron, bummer, wonder if it was the dreaded thrust bearing, I have lost a couple.
I hear ya on the age frustration, at 72 I kind of have to consider my sanity doing this stuff.
Stuff I could do blindfolded now takes writing down and on a checklist, lol.
Gees, I remember my days of Prochargers and blowthru carbs, sb's, life was simple, lol.

I'm calmer this morning...…..
I looked at the stuff in the filter with my microscope. Bearing material and piston coating. Black stuff. The coating was flaking off the Wisecos when I last had it apart.
I'll check crank end play this eve, that's my suspicion as well.
I did refill with oil, warmed it up, checked pressure. 80lbs at 5000 rpm. Oil is Redline 10-30.
FWIW, the trans and converter haven't been out of the car in 3 years. The TH400 has the converter feed mod and I have measured converter pressure and all was good there. The stock thrust never had an issue.....

Anyway, it has to come out again. My bad for not checking the oil after my 6 passes last year. I was way too overconfident that I had fixed the problem.

Appreciate the kind words. I'll start a new thread when I get it out and apart. Agin Mike, sorry for trampling your thread.

Don't quit Ron Running 8's in your 60's is living well haha.

I'm impressed with the simplicity of this build from motor.... to fuel system.... fuel management.... and the trans!

I choose a simpler route with 2800lbs, great aero/small frontal area..... and gobs of power haha. I've had ups/downs as well with motors. luckily mostly good! Racing isn't cheap with forced induction. Machine shops that are good.... are worth going to even if it's quite a drive.... or costs more. My machining isn't on the cheaper end; however my chosen shop does put out amazing motors (My 1200rwhp LS9 with stock LS2 crank, Compstar rods/Wiseco pistons/88mm turbo lived for 3 years running 1/4 and many 1/2 mile events. Always driven hard when the engine is on) I'm 46 and am tired of working on cars.... or changing engines often..... so I just pay the moola for a built setup in my budget.

I paid the $$$ for purdy good parts. Manley I-beams ($1500) Molnar forged crank ($800) and the LJMS Wiseco pistons (skirt coating falling off)

Anyway, I’m going to dump the oil again, and see. Re-evaluated what I saw in the oil. I’ll see if it repeats. Then going to check the
Valvetrain. Could have a failing Comp Trunion.

see how it goes.

its not lost any oil pressure

funny you should mention the coating falling off. I have never seen coating on aftermarket pistons look as nice as the stock pistons look. stock ones just wear thru and the others just flake off. even the line 2 line coating that cost more.

id pull the covers and check for copper. hope you get it figured out.

You have never been around the line 2 line product if you are claiming that stuff falls off. That stuff is worth every penny

I can't speak to the line to line coating. I have no experience with it.
No issues with the valve train. No metal in the heads. The trunions all feel smooth and free. Pressed a couple apart. Look perfect.
These are Comps, and while some had issues, these appear to be fine.
No pushrod ends failing etc.....
I did dump the oil and cut the filter again, all looks fine. I didn't drive it, but ran it for a an hour or so.
I'll start the yank it out process. I have one speed when it comes to this, and it's DAMN slow! Ha

Slow pace is a good thing when you’re trying to find a problem. Cam/cam bearings, lifters, bearings and back of timing chain is all that’s left.
