Default Bottom end rebuild questions

I recently picked up a iron 04 6.0l to build as a twin turbo motor for my f body. It's a street car. I need to rebuild the bottom end, bad rod, and am looking to upgrade in process without breaking the bank. It getting LS3 heads and a BTR turbo cam. Any suggestions on rods and pistons that would safely handle around the 800 hp neighborhood, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dom

Check out the Summit stuff. Looks to be quality for a great price.

You could open a catalog of ls rods and throw a dart blindfolded at it and whatever you hit will handle 800hp lol

You might want to consider a heavy wall piston pin upgrade. The default pins that come with most shelf pistons are borderline at best for 800whp.

Why not throw a good Gen 4 rod in it? Cheap, and they routinely laugh at 800+whp.

I second stock Gen IV rods for 800hp. Your 2004 could have Gen IV rods already, would just need to replace the one bad one (a couple bucks on eBay). If you're dead set on aftermarket, the Scat/Eagle stuff has treated me well and is under $500 for a set. Summit pistons look nice for the price as well.

I have a good set of Gen 4 rods if you're looking.

It does have gen 4 rods in it, but two were broken. So I am taking the crank to a machine shop and considered upgrading since it was all coming a part anyway.

2 broken gen 4 rods should raise some concern with the health of the rest of the rotating assembly. What type of failure and suspected root cause?

Hard to say. Oil looks like it was not changed and low. The rest of the bearings look ok. No signs of heat, unusual wear or damage. The block good, no visible damage. The knock sensors must have done their job.

Good luck on that Square Port LS build, you should be able to make solid power for a street car and survive well, there are many reasons to bend a rod or break stock pistons from tune, fuel, maintenance and even over use of knock sensors, when that happens the damaging detonation already began and the ECU goes to save what it can, in repeated use the tune could be on the ragged edge.... I've had many friends from my past who got good at changing parts in T-Types & GN's usually head gaskets after their bottoms were good.... can't wait to see what you build, with a solid bottom end it won't take much to make a lot of excess HP!!
