Default Turbo sizing for 5.3

Hey guys I'm new here. In the process of building an 81 Camaro. Already filled gutted except for a kirkey, 12pt cage, 9" Ford, forged 5.3 with prc heads, studs, still deciding between a th400 or powerglide since I have both laying in the garage. Will be a fiberglass nose on the car and limited street driving.

Anyways I found a good deal on twin eBay gt3582r turbos with 6462 wheels and stainless t3 vband housing .82AR, or should I just go to the s480 1.32

Goal is to run a high 9 and still be half decent on the street.
running Holley Terminator x and a flex fuel setup, flowtech 1 3/4 turbo headers with the flanges chopped and 2.25 v bands on them. I'm afraid the t3 .82 housing will be to small and I'll have backpressure issues

The s480 has a lot less unknown factors to deal with IMO, Occam's razor.

They will both work pretty well. I think the s480 has more power potential, but the twins will probably be more responsive.

I wouldnt worry about the housing too much, you can search for agp twin turbo kits on 5th gen camaros. They are making 1000whp through them on 376-416 cubic inch motors.

thats encouraging to hear. Any input on th400 vs powerglide for being strretable? I don't know anyone around me with a 2 speed that does any street driving and I'd imagine a th400 will have more parasitic loss

Either of the two setups will get you the goal of a high 9 second pass. A smaller set of twins would be a lot more fun for street driving over the s480. I see no reason for a powerglide for your goal. Th400 is cheap and easy and hard to beat all around

You don't think the t3 .82 v band housings will choke it too much?

I have these eBay gt35s on my 5.3

i had full boost by 3800 which isn’t to bad but my buddies comp 76/75 is a really good setup for the 5.3 he can prob make same as me if not alittle more on pump gas. Not sure his spool yet cause not on dyno but it feels like comes on faster than my twins.

not for your goals of a high 9 second pass they wont. They will probably make 800-850hp and with a good 60ft time thats an easy low 9 high 8

I plan on putting a brake in the trans around roughly a 3500 stall from ptc for the turbos. Should leave decently
