The issue with the Taurus fan is the startup initial amp draw. Starting it up on high, I've seen peaks around 60a initial before it levels off. Even with 2 40a relays in parallel after a few years abuse I'd see melty looking relay leads. The ideal solution is to get a 40a+ SSR relay with control on there.

Or if you didn't want to mess with that I had a low and high switch. Low was 1 40a relay. Id start the fan initially with that, then kick on the high switch (1 80a relay). This eliminates the super high initial 60a draw that melts things. Or at least it did for me. Even with 80a relay on it clicking straight to high eventually tore up the relay. I don't think they were meant to handle that kind of abuse. I have used continuous duty 120a golf cart relays, but I believe its still hard on the motor to start it in high.

Yeah, startup draw. Running per Jay it only pulls 20 or something.

Huh... maybe not an OEM taurus fan motor then? They pull a TON more than 20 if you start them on high. Put a clamp meter on it and look.

Get a PWM controller. It will run the fan JUST enough to keep things cool, and never shock-load the electricals...

Update on my fan.

My buddy built a shroud for it, and re routed the lower hose. It's working great. Only using a 40 amp fuse.
