Default Taurus Fan- E-motor temps?

I know this isn't a turbo question exactly. But ALOT of you run these fans. I've had one for 6 years on my rx-7 and never had an issue.

My latest Dorman version of this fan seems to be junk. Curious if anyone checks their fans motor temp with a heat gun? It moves alot of air and it will take my car down to 179* on a 100* day. I have it set to turn on at 190 and off at 185 now. Lately it has been blowing the 60A breaker inline with it. I checked the wiring and plug and it's around 190*. That's hotter than anything around it in the engine bay. Including the turbo (blanket in place) which only registered 160ish. Also the back of the electric motor is sitting at 240ish. This seems crazy hot to me. It will be the 2nd dorman taurus fan to go out on me if this one craps. I have a BIG 100A constant duty golf cart relay wired to it with massive ground and power wires. Def not a wiring issue.

Any sources for better fans? Having trouble finding original taurus fans new. Any specific companies to go to besides Dorman? I'm convinced their version of this fan is junk.

Any other people have issues with Dorman taurus fans? This one did great in the cooler months as it didn't cycle on/off much. Now thats it's 100* it cycles quite a bit. Guessing it's about ready to die.

I've noticed the price varies a lot. Hoping I can just drop a better motor in place. I've glassed and made the shroud to fit my radiator. The 4 seasons motor costs more than the 4 seasons whole assembly as well. Not sure I understand that.

I just put a Dorman Taurus fan on my car and have had no problems. The original Taurus fan still worked well, but it is 27 years old, so I was worried it was going to die at the least opportune moment.

Whichever version you buy, write to the manufacturer and ask them the CFM rating. The Dorman is 2970 CFM on high. Another cheaper brand said theirs was 2710 on high. Pretty big difference. Nobody seems to know what the original OEM fan was rated at, but running the Dorman and the Ford fan next to each other, it seems like the Ford fan puts out a reasonable amount more, but it is hard to tell.

I paid $108 from Summit and Amazon was cheaper than that for the Dorman. Pretty good deal any way you look at it.

Thanks. Yes, it cools fine. Either of those CFM ratings would cool my car great. Not concerned about flow or CFM at this point. The fan I have now is about a year old and the issue is the fan motor runs extremely hot, Not the car. If you have a temp gun aim it the back of the fan motor on the high setting. Basically temp rises and rises. Causing it to raw more amps. Eventually it runs so hot it trips the 60a breaker. This is the 2nd fan in 2 years from Dorman that had done the exact same thing. My fan is in a great position, no hot turbo parts close to it etc... It seems the motor is just junk on these and can't handle the power on the high setting. I may swap it over to the low setting to see if it helps, but this shouldn't be necessary.

I'm wondering if any of the other knock off brands sold by rock auto or anyone else have better motors in them.

The Four Season motors are usually US or Canada made. I'd put a new FS motor in and expect it to last 3-5 times longer than the Dorman motor. If you have an Advance Auto close by, they should have or can get the motor. Just make sure it's a non chinese Four Seasons in the box. Order online for $60 by using promo code coupon25 to save $20.

Thanks! that would be a life saver if it just drops in. Have some time and effort put in the shroud I didn't wan to lose/redo. I'll give it a shot!

only see the dorman model on the website. And a "carquest" motor replacement with no details on manufacturer.

I wonder how the Taurus fan stacks up to the Dodge fan that a lot of people are starting to run.
I think the next time I have to buy a fan, I'll just go brushless.

It should drop right in. Carquest should be FS motor in the box. The silver blue label on motor in pic is same as FS. Have AAP order it in if not already in store so you can confirm before placing order.

Use Dorman parts at my service center, quality is not the greatest. Sad part is it's getting hard to get good quality stock replacement parts altogether. Have to add a disclaimer on the invoice stating no labor warranty if they choose the brand "X" part. Sucks.

Has anyone used the 4 season's version of the Taurus fan with long term success? There's not too many 3.8 Taurus and Lincoln versions left in the local scrapyard-more like none. Also wondering which dodge fan was being talked about ? Hemingway powered ram maybe ?

Use car-part.com to locate used fan assembly. Shipped around $60. I've used many 4 seasons motors/assemblies over the years. I would not hesitate to try their motor in this application (especially if it has a warranty).

It fits several models, but the 99-04 Chrysler 300M with HD cooling is what I use. I grab the relays and wiring pigtail when I get one. Get a wiring diagram for them when you wire them up. They are a little unique in the way they are wired.

Are you talking about the a/c condenser fan? From what I see, the main cooling fan is run off the engine and the a/c condenser fan is electric. Doesn't seem like it would pull that much CFM.

How many do you want? Probably 10 of them within 20 miles of me. All around $50. I'll get it and ship it to you, if you want one. If the motor is separable, I can just ship that. PM me details.

FWIW I believe the "real" fans have a flat 3 pin weather plug on the motor. Where the knock off's all have wires going directly into the motor. Then they all seemed to have the round plug style that plugged into the chassis power harness.

Bummer on the Four Seasons motor. Did it have the silver blue label (like the USA or Canada motors do)? Check out car-part.com to source used parts. It's a great resource.
