I had been watching this ad for this AMC, price kept dropping, so I made a deal-its a 76 Hornet Sportabout, a small stationwagon. its powered (maybe powered isnt the best description) by a 258 6 banger, auto. Runs good, but-----has plenty of room for an LS, possibly sit low enough to install a 4l80E trans. Be a pretty simple conversion. As is, has 11.5" of rear wheel tub, fits a 260 x 50 x 15 pretty nice, they sell a kit to replace the leafs with coil overs, that gets me 14" of wheel well. I have enough spare parts to build a nice 5.3, and while the last 3 builds have been turbos, I would like to do another Procharged one (I like the sound, lol), or at the least a smaller turbo, like the VS 78/75, but the Procharger is the first choice. If I thought I could fit a carb and carb hat under the hood I would do that, kind of getting back to my roots, lol.
It only weighs 3K, so doesnt need a lot to push it. Plan on selling my turbo squarebody, so that will be the deciding factor.
Love the car! There was an old dude around here that had Ramblers with blow through turbo small block Chevs. This was 30 years ago. Sneaky and pretty damn fast in those days.
