I think you may have answered your own question; Your .6 tenths off of your 6.0L builds with a 5.3L? Seems like your missing the CI. As far as timing goes, what fuel?

That timing seems awfully low from other builds I've seen for that psi and E85. Like 8-10 degrees off.

5.3 is gonna take another 3-4 psi to run the same as your 6.0.

It runs good just not like I think it should. Going to do a timing pointer and check that out and go from there. Runs 10 teens easily with a 1.49 60. Same exact tune and launch with a 6.0 went 1.38 and 9.40-50s. Time to swap in my ly6 I guess

Just ran mine a few weeks ago on “lower” boost. 20psi, 17 timing, 11.3:1 AFR and it ran 9.3@147
Timing verified with a pointer.
3450lbs race weight.

I run that timing at 24 psi as well.
The 5.3 is 9.4:1 CR

Perhaps something else going on?
12.0 AFR seems lean for E85?

Ron

I’m working on it but I feel it’s off a little . Not bad but a few tenths . It will go 9.90s with a hard launch I’m sure . I bet it is the same weight as Ron’s nova no more. It’s a full 2009 lc9 with a jfr 216/222 cam and a 80/96 Borg billet. Spools good 7 psi in .6 sec on 2 step and 18 psi in 1.6 seconds from floored. Ptc 17.0 and 3.42 gear

Ron I typically run 11.7 ish on these but my last couple seem to mph better on 12.0 . Afr. Made one pass yesterday track was packed so I left . Wanted more tune time . Floored it at top amber so I got .6 before green on 2 step left on green at 6.5 psi went 1.49 / 6.50 @106. 10.19 @132. 18.2 psi/ 16 degrees timing. A 12 lb launch will surely get me a 1.3x. And a 9.xx but 132 mph is low . Should be 138 +.

Funny how yours is different. Mine takes longer on the two step. But is quicker to full boost.
Damn turbo stuff

I don't think there is an answer here. Just treat timing like a a low/high dial. Watch plugs and power/MPH. As soon as I stop seeing big gains per degree, I stop adding timing. I like to see at least .75 mph per degree. Ive picked up as much as 2mph off 1*. Not an exact science for sure. A load dyno would likely be the best place to dial it in. There is a definite sweet spot. Valve events, load, elevation, DA, and a many other variables all come into play.

I was at 20* at 18psi on my SBE 5.3. Just my experience. I believe we dropped it to 18* at 24psi. My tuner felt that was on the aggressive side. I told him to send it. Setup ran strong as hell tho.

The more built the engine, the more timing I've seen my tuner run. Big difference for him 'tween an SBE and a forged motor with aftermarket thicker deck heads.

Nice car! as mentioned previously the 5.3 is going to take more boost to run the same as a 6.0 would. AFR seems lean and it's definitely soft on timing.

Only proper answer is check the plugs! Not sure why people routinely risk engines over a $16 set of plugs. Be friends with your plugs! Especially when you have your dick beaters all over the keyboard.

Built engines don't like detonation either. My built engine has a good bit higher compression than my SBE so to blindly give it more timing wouldn't work out very well. In all reality you usually end up running less timing on built stuff since there's no point to buying forged parts with thick deck heads unless you are gonna lay the pipe to it.

I'd pull a couple plugs after a run.
