Default Boost for the Masses - Engine Build

Currently my '67 is running a LM7 SBE, stock L99 heads, a Capizzi cam grind, ARP hardware and a Melling oil pump. My long term plan has been to build a forged LC9 and to run aftermarket heads.

I've been working with the following industry players for an all-forged boost engine that is getting built this year:Here is the list of parts that will be used. I'm still updating and adding to the list, so it's not complete yet:

GM LC9 engine block, bored .005 over
TFS-30619991 TFS 220 Cylinder Heads
SUM-180LS362224x Pro LS 3.622 crank
SUM-LS6125927 Pro LS 6.125 H-Beam rods with ARP 2000’s
SUM-2999273785-7 Pistons
ARP-234-4317 Head studs
ARP-234-5608 Main Studs
AAF-ALL87024 Cylinder head dowels
NAL-12575329 Chevy Performance O.E. 5.3L bore replacement head gaskets
TFS-21407500 pushrods
SUM-HTLSKIT2 Delphi LS7 lifter and tray kit
NAL-12561513 Long Crank Key
SUM-161000 Short Crank Key
CLE-SH2125S Cam Bearings
MEL-10295 Melling Oil pump
SUM-G1585 LS Engine Hardware Kit / Plugs Dumbbell/ Side Bolts
SUM-G2627 Cam Change Gasket kt
SUM-G2621 Rear Cover with Main Seal
SUM-150106 Cam Retainer Plate
ARP-134-1003 Cam Bolts
ARP 234-2503 Crank Bolt
TFS-30675540 Timing Chain damper
ARP-200-8683 Windage Tray Nuts
ARP-671-1002 Oil pump Bolts
ICB-551432 Timing Cover bolts
SUM ___ LS engine diaper

I plan to reuse my Holley 302-2 oil pan and Holley High Ram intake.
The block is over with Graham Jones @ FastTimes. He determined that we are good with a .005 over bore which was going to effect the piston selection.

I kicked back and forth staying stock crank but the one in the builder block was not usable so that was not even an option.

Again this is a parts list in progress, I'll note when it's been edited.

Yeah I'm not sure what the final tally would be, I plan to figure that out and share it at the end. I figured that Summit would be the best bet for prices and they carry quality stuff so I couldn't go wrong. There are better cylinder heads but they get really pricey.

What's the power goal John ? What sort of cam specs? Just curious as it's probably over anything I'm prepared to do. Sounds pretty stout!!

Surprised your not going to give Summit a chance on the cam since the rest of the parts are from them. What's the boost coming from?

I'd like the longblock to support 1100rwhp reliably, I wanted to say 1200rwhp but I don't wantt to get out of control.

Right now the car has a billet wheel FIS BW 95/96 ddn.

John, has the builder brought up filling the block to the water holes? If not, I guess they believe the LC9 is capable of staying together at that level?

Seems quite impressive for an aluminum block… I have no first hand experience with the LC9, but we pushed an LSA to around 1200 crank.

Best of success to you!

Not planning to half or full fill the block.

Jon Capizzi has pushed an unfilled LC9 to 4.20s with safe tuning.

You plan on the same RPMs as him?

I don't plan to buzz mine higher than about 8000, and I don't have plans to run 4.20s'.

Supposedly my SBE and this planned built combo will run up over 8000 but I'm not at a point where I know what it wants.

I'm gonna guess your turbo will need a bigger exhaust wheel to run efficiently up into the 8000+ rpm range.

The original owner of this 85/96 spun it over 8000 and did well with it (7.72@174, 2900 raceweight).

Ah okay, I was think of Scott MacDonald who ran a 5.3 and saw some pretty significant gains by moving to the bigger exhaust wheel.
Can't wait to see some results!

Updated with more part numbers. Changed the pushrod part number to longer ones.
