Default Max RPM with hydraulic roller lifters

LS3 engine with CSC

If all of the other components of the engine are up to the task, what is the maximum RPM for hydraulic roller lifters? Rolling pulls rather than sustained RPM.

I’ve had my LS7 lifters in a 427 to 8000rpm more times than I can remember. With the appropriate cam profile, I never saw an issue.

I had a nice conversation with Joe at Johnson today. According to him the 2116 lifters are rated for a minimum of 7,500 and are being used in a Viper application at 9,300 LOL RPM sustained and have been for a while. The Viper lifter itself is the same as for an LS but the linkbar is different.

That certainly covers my hoped for of 8,000 RPM redline.

Hydraulic lifters are a LOOOONG way from what we had 40 years ago.
What called for solids back then are easily within the capabilities of modern juice lifters (remember that term? LOL)

IMHO, a good hyd lifter shout be good to near 8,000 rpm. Nowthen, trusting an OE style lifter using a tray at that rpm, no way. If you're gonna spin it up, I highly suggest, at least, stepping up to link bar lifters. Otherwise, dig deep and go solid roller. Low lash solid rollers are awesome. But the down side is, the cost of the rest of the valvetrain.

Trays have been perfectly fine at 8000 as have the smaller LSX block plastic lifter retainers. Actually seen more link bar failures, most of them that are under $600 are total junk so by the time you get a set of $1000 link bars that might work you may as well go LLSR.

This is good info to know. I went with the GM Performance caddy lifters and new trays for my build. I don't think I'll go over 7200 to 7300 rpms though.

I spin my ST2126LSR lifters to 8500 and valvetrain seems stable according to the dyno graph.
