Ok but what does it take to make a th400 work in my truck? I've never messed with those transmissions

Might be a stupid question but I'm looking at transmission and do I need to buy one with a slip yoke or bolt on? I know I have to get my drive shaft modified so wasn't sure if it mattered

Never swapped a th400 in place of a 4l60 in one of those trucks but I would guess
- converter
- longer driveshaft and yoke changed
- move or modify the crossmember for trans mounting
- shifting would have to be manual may or may not be able to make the stock shifter do this adequately
Not saying you should , just that it's an option

I'd just bite the bullet and do a 4L80 with performance clutches, HD drum and 34 element sprag.
That combo would last a really long time behind a turbo 5.3 and not cost an arm and a leg.
A built TH400 to hold 700whp will most likely require a manual valve body so down shifting won't be possible which on the street can kinda suck.

My car is more of a race car I drive on the street, so the overdrive wasn't worth the money to me because I don't intend on hitting the highway, but I can, and I have but its rare.
Physically they are almost identical and power capacity they are the same as they both use a lot of the same internal components.
My buddy is willing to sell, I told him to give me a price and he's looking at shipping.
Its brand new and never run so if you wanted him to send you some pics with the pan off or something, I'm sure he'd agree to do that.
I'd have bought it but I'm currently putting all my cash into my house to get it on the market to sell or else it'd be mine already lol.

It is so if the OD is important to you then stay with the 4L80 but the TH400 is a lot cheaper.

Do i have to change my flex plate on when putting a 4l80 on my lm7? Circle d said it should give me a gm bolt up pattern choice when choosing my torque converter but I don't see that option
