Ditch that small mesh screen, they kill flow on turbos.
Get a turbo guard with the large holes or the biggest filter you can fit.

really? It's not an actual guard. Its a sheet of metal mesh that I bought and cut out and made fit around it.

For real, that screen will be worse than a regular air filter. More restrictive than the honeycomb people take out of MAFs.

You either need a shape that increases the surface area to make up for the area the screen physically blocks, or such large holes as to only guard your turbo from large rodents or small children. So yes, most turbo guards are crap as well.

I'm running that one . Have planned on using a gauge to measure the restriction but haven't yet cause it just keeps going faster Lol.

lol I wouldn't complain then, when I take it to my tuner I'll make a pull with and without the screen to see what kind of difference it makes. I can't fit a big air filter like that. I Maybe have about 6 inch of clearance so I'm limited.

Can't tell from the picture but would an elbow help you to position a filter in there ? Could also make a cone or cylinder with an end cap out of the screen material. This would give you much more surface area and reduce any restriction

no because if i put an elbow on it then it would hit my overflow tank, its just a small tank and i had it removed in the picture but thats where i put it. Honestly even if it wasn't there it still wouldn't benefit. That space is smaller then the picture makes it look. I measured it from the end of the Flange to the radiator support om the closest point and its 5 inches

I run a Turbo Guard. Years ago I had a low mounted YSI setup with nothing and it ate some road debris and had to be rebuilt.

I definitely understand that, that's why I put the screen because I just wasn't comfortable with having the turbo open and exposed to the elements.

Turbo Guard Maxx is the one I use for the track or when street racing.
I run a really large AFE filter the rest of the time which honestly doesn't seem to make much of a difference in seat of the pants performance.
