FWIW a VS gen 1 billet 11 blade 78/75 .96ar was in the 2.5:1 BP range on a stock 5.3 with a stage 2 cam. It had a 3” downpipe and cutout under the pass seat. Opening the cutout did very little for pre turbo back pressure.

OP the VS nex Gen stuff is real nice. I actually went down from the 78/75 to a 70/70 nex gen as I’m all street and want insta boost. The 70/70 nex gen has the same pre turbo BP as the gen 1 billet 78/75. 2.5:1 is a lot for a race car but not terrible for a street car. If you wanted get the next gen 78/75 .96ar and crank up the boost. It will give you an edge over the gen1 u got prob in spool, BP and boost would likely come in harder.

Can't remember if you are sbe or what fastners/gaskets you were running, Don't want to highjack this thread , are you going to post about the problem? Logging at the time ?
Sorry for the delay in replying guys. Actually been sick for almost a month, so haven't been online as much as usual.
My 6.0 has a lot of good parts inside and has all ARP hardware, with studs on the heads, and GM (or better) gaskets throughout. Failure was 100% my fault, for playing around with 25# of boost without being done dialing the fuel/timing in yet. Rookie mistake, no doubt.
Honestly, after spending the money and time on the 85mm turbo, and Holley Terminator X Max, only to lift a head or two, it kinda took the wind out of my sail, as they say. I quit the local street car shootout series that I have been doing the last 6 or 7 years, and have been pit crewing for my son with his car. I have had the head gaskets all summer long, just waiting for me, but my job (lead mechanic for usps) hogs up 6 days of my week, and only day off don't really have me wanting to do mechanical work, if that makes sense. I may do a thread on it, once it's fixed, but ironically, I took it out Friday, running it as high as 23# of boost, and car never ran hotter than 187 degrees. Musta fixed itself, lol...

For a streetcar with a 4L80 that can down shift, it would serve you quite nicely in all areas.
As that turbo gets bigger and bigger, you start getting away from streetcar territory and into turbo lag and top end horsepower territory.
@rel3rd Do you think your merged hotside has something to do with spooling that 85?
I had a merged T4 on my last car with an old school T7875 from Turbonetics which probably wasn't the greatest but still made over 700whp but my current car is a divided T6 with an S484 and it comes online just as fast if not faster.
I really feel like there is some performance to be gained by going to a divided hotside, no real data, just seat of the pants feel.
Just my $.02
No idea, to be honest. I have no desire, or plan, to modify the hotside though...aside from the dual wastegates I previously converted to. My son and I have actually discussed him taking my 6.0 and freshening it up for his much lighter car, and me using his proven little 4.8 and a 78/75 for more of a cruiser than a bruiser.

That's awesome! Glad it worked out for you too.

Thumbs up

Looks great! Was the stand up radiator a kit, or fabbed up? I really like the bars that replace the factory core support sheet metal.

It was fabbed up. I'm surprised somebody doesn't sell a "kit" though.

Just remember that 13psi isn't really in any turbo's efficiency range and just getting started to making some jam..... Turn that thing up!

I've ran both Option 1 and Option 3 on my car, but started with 78/75 CAST wheel.
All were VSRacing versions FWIW.

My car is 2000 T/A, iron 6.0, 4L80E with 3000 stall triple disc, 3.70 geared 9" rear.
With me in it, car weighs 4160#. Run E85 from local convenience store, dual 450lph Walbros, 210# Bosch and all turbos asked about, I ran stock ECU, tuned with HPTuners, by me. Shifts made with factory ECU. IE; I launch in drive and never tough shifter.
My info below may not be exact, (but it'll be real close) as I am going by memory.
Feel free to search my name for exact details, ET's, etc.

~ T-4 Cast 78/75, .96a/r, 3" downpipe to open cutout by starter, 2-3# launch, 15# max
9.92@138, 3rd pass ever on combo

~ T-4 Billet NextGen 78/75, .96 a/r, 3" dp open cutout, 2-3# launch, 19# max
9.32@147 (5.9x@119 1/8th) using transbrake, 9.60's all day footbraking it.

~ T-4 Billet 80/82, 1.10 a/r, 4" into 3" downpipe w/open cutout, 2# launch (I never tried dialing in launch boost before track day)
9.35@149 with like a 1.6x sixty foot, lol.

On MY car, I had near zero lag with either 78/75, and using Turbosmart EBoost Street boost controller, could make 7-8# in less than 2 seconds.

Fast forward to early 2023, I swapped on a billet 85/88, and a Terminator X Max, and promptly threw 25# at it and lifted a head...still haven't fixed it.
It did go a 7.0 (1/8th) on the street with a 2# launch and 8# max though, so it still runs very well...even hurt.

Anyway...As said above, I'd also say turn it up, if fueling and tune is good enough to allow it. It'll make boost quicker all around.

BTW, I tried an OPEN, short 4" downpipe and car ran exactly the same as the 3" open cutout....

P.S.
My son (Bmore Fox) on YouTube has a Foxbody Mustang we converted to a 4.8 LS, Turbo 400, and an 80/82 VS turbo. He has zero issue making boost on that little engine. I can't share his numbers, as he does local no prep stuff, but he runs quite a bit better than my bests...

Skip to 11:00 for boost building on launch and a pretty sweet 1/8th mile run on the street

Hope this helps...

.
I would love to pick your sons brain im building a 5.3 now may look at his turbo setup. I watch his videos on tick tock. That think is a beast.

It does run very well. We have a 6.0 on the stand for it...probably next year, but reach out to him. I'm sure he'll share what he can.

I on the other hand am more interested in emulating you and your car Rel3rd! Its a little tougher with a 5.3 to get that balance of spool and power but hoping this turbo gets me there. I was interested on your thoughts. Its exactly like a next gen 7875 on the hot side. The cold side is 80x98 and is supposed to outflow the 7875 and spool better. We'll see!
