Default Where to place wastegates?

I'm at a bit of a lost on where to place my wastegates. I was thinking about on top of my elbows at an angle, which would provide great flow. Or possibly on the headers? Might have to wait until my hood is installed to make sure they clear. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Elbows. I believe you can get the SS cast like the elbows.

I will look into ordering some to see if they fit or not. Might be a super tight for.

This is where I'd put them with a straight shot from the headers.
Then tie the vent into the downpipe.

I went and mocked up the radiator and electric fans. Sadly it's not room to go in the identified locations. They are 44mm wastegates. I know it's not ideal but I may have to mount them on top of the elbows. Either vertically or at a 30-45 degree angle.

Do you really need 44mm wastegates for that application?
I run twin 38's on my divided T6 hotside and they work great.

I was thinking the same. I'm going to try twin 38's. I think the will package much better. What is your RWHP?

if you run larger wastegates they will be less sensitive to location. id suggest just using the 44s and put them where they fit or where they look best

Trendsetter has way more experience than I on this topic so if he says to use them then they'll work, I'm just thinking packaging.
To answer your question, it's probably around 750-800whp at the moment but will be turned up to 1,000whp at some point.

case in point, I ran a precision 66mm waste gate in the worst spot possible. Exhaust had to basically do a 180 deg to get to it. Worked great, had zero boost control issues. Had 10 lb spring in it and made 11 on gate. Turned it up to 24 with a 3 port Mac valve.

Well you all just saved me some $$. I will start with the 44mm wastegates and go from there.

You don't need or want a larger a gate than necessary. 38's in that circled location will work fine. You want a better location over a larger gate.

Get the "mini" 38mm gates. It will be much less headache IMO. No need for large gate cost or installation hassle. Good luck drilling those cast elbows! I had to buy a tungsten carbide hole saw... lol

Works great tho. I control twin 78/75's with a 5.3 easily.

Might take a look here as well if you buy cheap gates. From what I've seen they have a great service life *IF* you do a few things to them before install. Mine 38mm "mini" WG's were $60 each.

I was not aware of mini 38s. I will look into them. I'm going to check the thread out and may have some follow up questions.

Thank you. I almost purchased the Tial MVS version for $70. You saved me some coin! What size carbide hole saw did you use? Also the pipe size?

I used a 1.5" for both.

Won't let me post amazon links for some reason.

I mounted gates on the collectors of the headers on my last setup. I believe this was a detriment to the effectiveness of the hot side. I used 2 different sets of turbos and both were much laggier than they should have been. But this is just speculation on my part.

Placing the gates on the elbows is definitely the right/best place to put them.

I'm going to but a set Armageddon LSX cast manifolds from a member on here. It will clean the engine bay up and fix a few issues I'm having with the wastegates.
