Default What head gaskets?

What head gaskets are suggested for turbo. Maybe 12psi max.
Some say OEM off of '02 LS1.

GM MLS head gaskets seem to work the best, really never hear of people having sealing issues with them unlike the cometics. Quite a few here on the FI board run the GM MLS gaskets with great results.

The heads are stock slightly ported LS1's. We plan on having them checked to make sure they are true. The engine has ARP head bolts now. Can they be used again or are they like the stock headbolts; 1time only?
Are the cometics better if the the head is true?

You can reuse the ARP's as they are not TTY bolts. I have 6.0 MLS gaskets with my 6.0 heads. The heads were decked ever so slightly to true them up....I run 15psi with my ATI and they haven't failed. But I would ask a few of our sponsors like Chris@APE or Paul@ThunderRacing to see what they rec'

Harlan(Y2Khawk) also might be an excellent source of info for your gasket questions.

if the heads are the 'notched' castings you have to run the cometic c5475 (which i've had great luck with but $) or get the notch welded up (like i just did) and run the oem mls gasket.

I had Cometics but could not get them to seal very well and had one blow on me with just 8 psi. I then switched to the Gm MLS gaskets and have had no worries!

Gm MLS gaskets will work fine....and are cheap. I am using Cometics which are expensive and reuseable.....work fine.

Mr.Gasket brand MLS work perfectly with my notched 98 heads.
Stay away from the Fel-Pro composite gaskets.

When you say; Fel-Pro "Composite" gaskets, I understand you are talking about there stock replacement graphite gaskets.

Why do you say to stay away from them?

No I'm talking about the part #1041 composite gaskets with the blue silicone print-o-seal and pre-flattened copper fire ring.
They just will not stand up to the abuse very long.
My history with those gaskets goes back a lot of years and even back then they proved worse than stock graphites with power adders.Although their loc wires worked well.
Anyhow, I needed a gasket a few years ago when I opened up my chambers to 73cc and the stock graphite gaskets bore size was now to small for my heads.

The only choices I had at the time for a larger bore gasket was the then new released ls1 Fel-pro gaskets or the cometics which at the time everybody had trouble with.
So I gave the fel-pros a shot once again and quickly blew them out just like old times.
I had actually called Fel-pro tech and talked about their gasket vs MLS gaskets. At the time Fel-pro did not have a MLS gasket for the ls1 but they were very honest and told me the mls was much superior for a boosted motor.
But I used them anyway as I knew they would at least seal the water passages fine.
I still don't know if the Mr.Gasket MLS gaskets are just relabled Cometics or not, but they sure seal perfectly and have held up to MUCH more than the fel-pros did for me.
Only thing I did with the MLS gaskets was to light coat them with Hi-temp aluminum/ ceramic header paint before install. Better than copper coat IMO. Steve
