Default 76 or 88mm turbo selection

I am debating about build a single turbo kit over the winter. I have basically got everything wrapped up except for turbo selection. What would be the difference between running a Precision turbo PTE76 or PTE88mm. Any thoughts?

76 would hold you back and a 88would be too laggy. what you need is something right in the middle... HEY! i have for sale a gt80R with bearings for 1500 including shipping dang that works out sweet

Phil the T88 will make a little more power on the top side. In the mid boost level they will be pretty similar. As the boost rise you will get close to the choke line on the 76 soon. The 88 will still allow for some added boost without going into the choke zone. The only drawback is some added lag.

With a 346/7cid, what kind of spool rpm are we looking at? What size crossover pipe should be used? 2.5"

Your running 12:1 compression right now? I imagine there are changes planned for the turbo? Sounds like it will be a wicked C5 with any of the above turbos.

2.25 or 2.5, well either will work just fine. To add some velocity stick with the 2.25 crossover. As for the T88 spool up...probably around 4700-4900rpms. The 76GTS is about 4000-4400rpms. The GT80 with the R-trim wheel and DBB will be around 4500-4600 or so.

Yeah, I have been planning a turbo kit for the last 6 months. The final detail was solved when I put the coilovers on. We're setting my tig welder up at my new house so only time will tell....

What size downpipe does this assume?

Full boost is measured at peak torque. According to that graph, full boost is around 4600rpms.

Phil, downpipe would be 3".

Here's my plan:
1.75" SS headers(turbo on driver side)
2.5" SS crossover pipe
PTE 76 or 88
4" SS downpipe into dual 3" cat-back
3-3.5" Aluminum Pipes

To be honest with you, David's turbo for the price he is asking is a great deal. It would supply you with the big #'s and still spool up a bit quicker then the T88.

Phil,

I have a setup similar to what you are building..Its a stock cube, PTE T76 GTS single ,3" downpipe, 2.5" crossover. The car made 730rwhp/740rwtq @ 16psi using a s/c spec cam. I've recently switched cams and although I haven't dynoed the car yet, my atap scans showed that from 2800 - 4100rpm, the engine is flowing an average of 8lbs/min more than the old setup with the s/c cam. I haven't gone above 4100 on the street for safety reasons. I will be tuning the car on a dyno in about 5 days.
I currently see 16psi by 3,600rpm. I thought about going to T88 (even built a 429 to put on), but found that it won't fit with my setup. I'm going to see how far I can push the current setup. I fully expect to see 800rwhp before its all said and done. I think LS1 speed made 850rwhp with a T76gtq. I'm kinda glad the T88 wouldn't fit as my car has pretty good response time and isn't lacking for power.
