Default Question for Y2khawk

I was looking at some pics of your twin setup and was wondering where you had those collectors fabbed. They look damn clean.

the headers are custom...the collectors themselves are Burns pieces. www.burnsstainless.com

I learned a lot just by looking through his picture albums. Not that I would want anything as radical as an 8.2X Fbody (I would kill myself), but it does present ideas for a nice setup without paying 7-9g's.

I am sure that he did all things considered but the headers themselves couldn't have cost that much to make. I figured probably about 4-500 for stainless bends plus whatever the collectors cost just for the headers. I tend to do things in baby steps...

The collectors are easily that much. I think he has said $1500 in headers.

The collectors were bought from burns stainless. nothing else compares to their quality! Harlan built the rest of the headers himself though.

Yeah I saw how foam noodles and tape were used to secure routing for the headers. Then tape to finish. Was the engine welded to the frame to reposition it for clearancing?

Correct, the collectors are from Burns. Made for my needs, all 321 stainless, slightly shorten for more turbo room, with flange already attached. For a double slip collector like that you'll be looking at $500 to $600 each. I'd bought quite a bit from them that year so I was getting decent pricing on everything.

The bends are all 321 as well. The amount used to actually make the headers was probably in the $500 to $600 range as well. I over bought when i got the bend, so I don't have an exact number.

The motor was moved down and back for clearance and weight distribution.

I have a question, Matt. Are the joints on the headers just slip-fitted? I mean, is the tubing from the headers actually welded to the collectors? If not, what is the benefit?

Just slip fit. Lets the header grow and move, trying to keep cracking to a minimum.

The coil packs are relocated to the ears of the midplate, and I use an LT1 wire set with a couple of them shortened up.

Thanks a lot for the info and all the R&D you have done. Just did a search on your profile and learned quite a bit from convos you had with others about the same thing. Are you still using the stock coil packs or did you step up the amperage and use the truck coils? Thanks in advance.
