Default STS under glass

http://www.trtturbo.com/customerscarsandlinksindex.html
My son wanted to do something different so we did. We cut the area out where the T-tops would store and installed 1/2 in. plexiglass. The turbo will tuck up and completely out of site from behind. We'll see what effect the heat has on the plexiglass. This is just a mock up, as we will use a different pipe off the exhaust.

Great, so you made your trunk pretty much unusable unless you wanna scratch the hell outta the Plexi and dump stuff in there. Add to the fact that no one will ever see that except for the rice shows and it all seems like a waste of time. But I guess different strokes for different folks.

I don't think Billy ment this for a "new coolest mod" to do.

I think it will work great for showing customers the kit and showcasing it for shows. It's more of a way to make displaying the kit much simpler than having customers or showgoers crawling around on the ground. Even mirrors for undercarraige display are sometimes hard to see well, especially on low cars.

The plexi might start to yellow from the heat though.

You can alway go to Lexan. I made a Lexan rear window for my race car. It works the same as plexi glass but its ALOT stronger. You can also wax it to reduce scratches.

I personally wouldnt do it to my own car, but my son wanted to. It would be okay to fill it with stereo, but not this I guess. The turbo is completley hidden this way and Justin is right, if someone want to see, just open the hatch. The main reason to do this is just for show, not function although it will work just the same.
You guys are so serious!

LOL. Yea, he can tuck the filter up there too. I was working on a customers car and he kept asking me what I thought. I just told him its his car. You get to point of no return pretty quick.

yes, but peeps were bitching about the rigidity after cutting the trap door for modding a fuel pump, and you removed a section 30x that size
My concern is in functionality of the car itself!

We didnt touch the frame rails, only the bottom and sides of the pan. You cant tell the difference at all when driving. We sealed it very well too so there is no difference in road noise either.

Last time I check the well back there didn't have much of anything to do with the "functionality" of the car.

And I guess you guys never thought to look at his Sig. he's an STS dealer.. What better way to show case a product than to make it different and easy to show.

I don't think I would go this route but what harm does it do?

I think the fact that he is a dealer makes this an extremely valuable modification. I know if I was 200 years old like most of you guys, I wouldn't want to crawl on the ground and hurt my back looking at this thing! I agree totally with Billy... loosen up guys

Billy, I think it's a great idea to showcase. But I agree that the plexi will yellow after time depending on the heat factor.

Reminds me of the "cut away" views of some engines and those demo gears you see at all the auto parts store. I don't think you will win any awards on the bling factor, but I think you guys will sell more.

Good luck.

damn for real y'all, put the STS Hatoraid down and step away from the forums....

I think its a neat idea for a "KID" to come up with. Its very creative and its something new. That being said its also NOT something I would do. I am sure some of the haters up there wont care but I would like to see pics if you ever get a chance.

He is my "kid", but he is 22. (still a kid to me). When we get it completely done, I will have several pics on the site. He asked me if I wanted to do my Formula that way. "Hell No". He thinks his car is cool as hell though and I think its a neat idea.
He already has the stall in it. Now he has to get the turbo done. Its an LT1 car, but runs really strong.

IMO, a larger bolted-in drop-in trap door designed to resemble the Moroso trap door used by some as an access door to the fuel pump on F-bodies looks more professional than plexiglas and is more functional. The access door would also have to seal appropriately to keep out carbon monoxide. The access door would be covered with a 'Floor Mat' piece of carpet sized to fit (and with an STS logo), with sound insulation underneath.

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...52&prmenbr=361

If you want to demo the unit and/or when/if you want to service the air cleaner and/or the turbo unit, remove the piece of carpet and open the access door.

If addition to the access door, a metal housing (aluminum or steel) could also be dropped through the hole which would not only hide the unit, but aid in keeping the unit protected from water, dust, dirt, mud, salt, slush, snow ice etc. which seems to be one of the most FAQ by naysayers about the STS unit (other than lag).

In fact it could be designed to appear as if the housing is completely stock with the appropriate heat shields, and openings and outlets for air circulation, and pipes etc.

I would think if some owners are willing to hack on the front of the car to install an FMIC, and move the battery to the rear of the car, then a modification such this isn't any more radical or 'noob'.
