Default Planning for STS what to do?

So I'm thinking about giving the rear turbo a try... My problem is this:
I currently have SLP long tube headers (doh!) and my stock manifolds are long gone (doh! doh!). I've searched and found some threads about the header vs manifold thing but what i want to know is, what should i do?

1) Buy kooks stainless LT's? Will be nice to have until i get the turbo and I understand they provide enough clearance for moderate lowering and the stainless is supposed to hold heat well.

--or--

2) endure the hassle of trying to buy used manifolds and shell out $500 on a (I'd want to get a new randomtech) Y to go with em.

option 1 costs about $1000

option 2 costs about $50+500+finding and buying used manifold from who knows who/where (aka: stress)

So either way I'm looking at inevitably high costs, so what it really comes down to is performance... Which of these two setups will perform better?

Sorry about the long post... Thanks for your help!

You can always just put the turbo on with the slp LT's. I have customers with LT's and the turbo still works fine. Even though it may make some difference, it shouldnt be alot, especially considering the amount of money. I would keep what you got and save the $.

Yeah, that would be nice, but SLP's hang down way way too low so I NEED to do something else anyway, just wondering what would be best for the turbo. Leaning towards kooks if LT's dont hurt the STS.

jus stay with what ya got man. if you want more exhaust velocity, makea veturi out of a couple reducers and put that in. focus more on stuff on the top end to get more power and such. good luck

LOL... I think i've already made my decision... but i'll go ahead and try to make this a little more clear. I CAN NOT KEEP WHAT I HAVE... I want to lower about an inch and my SLP's have the worst ground clearance ever. SO.... I NEED to do something different.

lemme rephrase again... I need either better fitting LT's (Like kooks ) or stock manifolds ... as I can not keep what i've got

anyways, thanks guys

I don't think getting another pair of longtubes is in your best interest, at most a better clearing one will only gain you 1/2 inch and since your lowering its not going to make any difference to justify paying for another pair. if anything you could get mid length headers be Mac.
If it were me I'd just get some used stockers, there are plenty of guys who just leave there old stuff in the garage-I still have mine from my LT1 and there are plenty of salvage yards that have them. I just looked at 3 oof them today online-not looking for exhaust but I'm sure thy have them for cheap. With the STS I don't think you'll gain a whole lot having longtubes, as a matter of fact the owner told me not to get them as I wouldn't see any noticable gain. try posting in your local state area on this board maybe there is someone near you that has some.

I would but Kooks and have them coated along with the Y-pipe.Get the SLP's off and sell them.(they are horrible on ground clearance).

I would think it would be easy to find some stock manifolds. If it were me, I would get some stock manifolds and have them coated. No leaks, no clearance issues, works great with STS.

I don't understand why everyone is so hellbent on using LTs with this kit. It is soooo easy to find stock manifolds for cheap and slap em on and recoup some money by selling the LTs. Plus no more leaks!!!

I spoke with KOOKS yesterday and they advised against COating there headers. They said it would HURT the over all performance of the headers and the system if you had them coated? They told me you would get Better velocity and heat transferance if they were NOT coated? That came From Nick at KOOKS? Lata, ARK

Another option is to run some mid-lengths like MAC's.

What year car do you have? I have an extra pair of used cats and manifolds for 2000+ that I could POR-20 (high temp paint coating) for you.

Say $125 plus shipping? That is for the manifolds, cats and POR-20 (silver).

You would be doing the exact same thing I did. I got rid of my SLP LT's because of clearance issues. I coated the ENTIRE exhaust back to the turbo. I happened to get an extra set of used manifolds and cats. Let me know.

You can do a search for my credibility.
