Default What kind of gas milage can i expect from my 408 turbo setup?

i understand its not gonna be ideal, but im just trying to figure out what i could muster out of it if i just drive it on the freeway cruisin without getting on it. ive never owned a turbo car, so i dont know what to expect.

setup will be a 408 iron block stroker with a gt55 turbo. all supporting mods, afr heads, 3:55 gears, goal is to make 700 rwhp on pump gas. All tuned and built by FMS (best company out there in my opinion)

like i mentioned before, i understand that when i get on it, it will suck up the gas, but im just curious what i can expect if im just driving it normal. my old heads/cam setup was about 20 mpg on the freeway, which isnt too bad for 425 rwhp.

thanks in advance.

my 347 8.9:1 CR turbo TA go 20mpg on average, not bad for 512rwhp

my 348 8.6:1 3800# 3.23 geared 3800 stall only gets 16-17 mpg. It seems the compression drop really hurts the most

i heard compression drops are supposed to be better for milage. unless i was mistaken.

im guessin anywhere from 8.5-9.0 CR through a 6 speed.

again, have you talked to allan about your fuel and computer upgrades? i dont see how making 700 rwhp on pump gas is going to happen first off. i sure hope it does for ya though. second, i dont know about good gas milage with the enormous injectors and fuel pump you will be looking to run. lastly, you are dumping enough money to buy a nice new car into your exisiting car, i wouldnt worry about milage.

thanks for the encouragement, i did mention to allan what my goals were and he put the setup together for me. if he did not think it was possible im sure he would have told me so. as far as the computer and fuel upgrades, both him and i are confident that it shouldnt be too much trouble, as long as his tune is good(which i have 100% confidence in).

like i mentioned earlier, i understand with the amount of power its capable of that it will eat right through it, but it will be a weekend car too, so i am just CURIOUS what i should expect if i do not get on it.

You're going to have 20k in your motor.

What is an extra $20 a week in gas?

Rob Raymer got about 800 hp out of his stock LS1 and got better than 30 mpg.

He said pump gas.

So drive it and test it out.

My guess would be 15 mpg, depending on your engine setup.

Post turbo mileage will be identical to pre turbo.

The gears will affect you more. You never said auto or manual. That will make a bigger difference. You never mentioned compression. As stated, that will be a factor.

The turbo will be nothing. You said highway. That implies cruise conditions. Sure when you are making the power, you will use the appropriate amount of fuel. But even then, how long can you make more than stock power for very long on a tankful? 60 seconds cumulitive? From 70 MPH, 5 seconds and 700 HP will get you to about 120 MPH. How much longer are you going to keep you're foot in it, and how many times?

Tell your father you want to ditch the 408, and stay with stock cubes. The money you save will buy you all the imcremental fuel you will need for the life of the car.

My car gets 9mpg around town and 20 on the freeway at 70-75mph. Cruised at 100-105mph for an hour straight about a month ago and it got 16mpg. These numbers are without ever getting on it.

8 mpg here in town and 20 on the highway with 8.5:1 compression and a big cam in my 408. I must admit that it seems like I am always putting gas in the car......

Didn't MTI make 750+ rwhp with their Z06 427+F1 procharger with 93 octane and cats?
