Unhappy OK, rate my cam

The cam I have in my turbo set up is an NA cam, obviously not very good for FI (in my case turbo). I am considering having a custom turbo cam made, but I am not sure if it would be worth the money and downtime for the install. I will tell you a little about my current set up and cam and I would like opinions to see if it really sucks, or if I can get away with using it untill I do an engine rebuild.

Also, I will include my current dyno numbers (but I have added a larger TB, injectors, alchy injection, and will be upping the boost about 1-2 more lbs once I can get in for tuning etc) and I would appreciate an educated guess as to what my numbers would be if I added a custom somewhat aggressive turbo Cam.

current numbers: 561 rwhp and 465 torque

Cam numbers: 220 intake 230 exhaust, .544 with my 1.6 rockers, and a 114 degree lobe separation

Set up: 355 LT1, mildly ported stock heads and intake. Single turbo set up with a 76mm turbo, 1 1/2 inch headers with 2 inch collector to a 3 1/2 inch down pipe feeding to a 3 inch Borla (wide open) with a cut out open all the time right after the downpipe.

Any suggestions, advice, etc would be appreciated.

Also while we're at it, any idea how much more power I can expect with the mods I have already done? I went from a 52-58mm throttle body, 50-60 lb injectors, alchy injection (will be tuned correctly) and I plan on putting 1 1/2 more lbs of boost to it. Thanks!

It would be nice if u can switch the durations by putting the cam in the opposite way lol. I would go with a 230/226 .570 .580 115LSA cam for your setup. Good luck.

I agree

Any clue on the power increase with the cam you suggested?

I think u are going to see a huge TQ increase over what u have now. Im thinking 50-70rwtq. The HP might be the same or 10-20rwhp more.

Its an A4. Infact, the reason I am asking is because I ordered a converter from Edge and they custom make it according to your gear ratio, power levels, and cam specs. I had to give them all the info in order for them to make it. I was debating on having them set it up for a turbo cam I may get in the future.

My goal is for a lot more torque, and added horsepower. On a scale from 1-10, 1 being a stock cam and 10 being the most outrageos turbo cam out there, I would probably want about an 8.

Funny thing is a stock cam (or near stock cam) will make plenty of power, probably just as much as you're making now.

Something that doesn't bleed off near as much boost will give you a nice pickup in torque.

When I researched my cam, I heard from Comp, from APE, and from an independant engine builder that the old school "reverse split" rule for turbo cams doesn't really apply anymore (I guess due to the new lobe designs ) and that any increase from a reverse split over a dual pattern or a regular cam would hardly be noticable on newer cam shafts.

I'd love to hear the holes in this story, however, so please poke away

I would really like to see 565 torque if I change my cam and about 600rwhp. If I keep my cam, once I intall the 58mm tb, larger injectors, alchohol, and 1 more lb. of boost. I would like to see 500 torque, 600 rwhp. I know I can get my hp numbers up, I just feel like my torque is to low and that is all I am really concerned with...and I think it could be the cam.

When I first bought my car, the guy who built/designed everything figured I would need a turbo cam, and more lift on the intake side. Apprarently he has been doing more research and lots of GN guys are running nearly identical cams that I currently have, and there are no really good indicators on what a good turbo cam is for these cars.

Thoughts?

I am having an edge lock up (3400) made as we speak, so I will have the ability to unlock it. The dyno #'s I had were with my VIG 3000 unlocked.
