Default Thinking about an STS turbo on completely stock '04 A4 GTO

I like the quietness of it. The install seems to be a breeze.

What can I expect to make on an ultra safe tune at 5 psi?

Is 400 through the automatic feasable? This seems like it would be a bit cheaper then heads/cam and all the other bolt-ons that go with it. Figure heads/cam package will be $2500, $1200 for headers, $500 for cat-back, $1000 for other little things like cold-air, TB, and pulley and I'm looking at $5k+.

The STS should get me there for a tad less money, much less in installation costs and better drivability. How reliable would a baby 5 psi set-up be? The car would be a daily driver....

You kind of answered your own question

390-400 RWHP would be expected from an auto. Keep in mind injectors and a fuel pump would be a very good idea, even at 5psi. Drivability would be like stock until you nail the throttle...

That's why I'm going to go with an STS soon... I don't have to mess with headers/exhaust/cam/heads ... drivability is great... and it has way more mid-range than a lumpy cam.

I would go ahead and do injectors and pump and the 5psi kit should make you around 400rwhp. I have even gotten better mpg with the kit on the highway.

Yeah I was shocked. The 13.59 was great but I was even more shocked at running over 103 MPH in an automatic. Its all luck of the draw and their is absolutely no skill involved in racing a bone stock A4 GTO. Stab-n-steer & wait....

The STS sounds great, I'm gonna wait until some guys pile up some mileage on these set-ups I think....

Not sure if you've seen this, and I'm not sure of his mods. But he went 11.84

The rear mount works better than I thought it would on my Z28.

another thing to consider is that a cam will move your powerband higher into the rev-range which would result in less efficiency at the lower end of the powerband. basically, you would lose a little low end grunt, street manners, and some gas mileage(how much depends on the cam) but the turbo just adds power to the mid/top of the powerband so it will drive like stock and come to life when you get on it.

Its still gonna be 5 to 6K after its all said and done and thats $$$$....
IMO,I'd go headers,a nice cam and ptb along with a pulley,SS3600,shift kit, tune it.
Everyday reliable low 12 Sec piece with good street maners and a musclecar sound

Come the summer I might have an 05 with this recipe....

I love our STS GTO, it's only running 4 PSI but we're picking up about a 100 horsepower. It makes the car so much fun, the torque alone is one reason you should get a turbo vs. heads and cam. You don't have to drive around like a redneck with open headers to make power. It sounds wicked but not obnoxious.
It's great for a new car because even though it makes it faster it's a better daily driver with better gas mileage. You don't have to bounce of the rev limiter to make power too, it's all based one engine load rather then RPM.

that is so true. dont go thinking "ill just buy this kit cheap and that'll be that". aside from the kit you will need fuel pump, fuel injectors, tuning, guages, and some other odds and ends.
you probably wont need the bigger fuel sys if you go with the cam but thats just because you wont be making as much power.

Kenny, sounds like your on your way with the "Perf Stuff" again FYI still have not committed to the "Red" deal...but I'm starting to aquire a bunch of parts... Also, you may be interested in what I'm up to in the torque converter area now....call or email me.

Brenteb02...been a long time...hows the Vette running now? Gave up on my 98 Vette....starting to "relearn" and building a 98 Trans Am.

I would add a Walbro in tank fuel pump to any car that is running forced induction, no matter how low the boost level. I would also recommend larger fuel injectors and definately get tuning done before the first time you go wide open with the throttle. Bob

I've seen these thing run,can u say turbo lag....
They do work and have gone fast but they also hang low....

I'd like to see a single front mount kit or a twin screw setup for the GTO...Theres 2 companies working on both as we speak,by yrs end will have alot of other options besides a rear mounted turbo kit.

I second the torque convertor. Torque convertor is the best bang for the buck (after nitrous) on most auto's. All the fast STS car's have convertors too.
