Default Question about FMIC...

Is it worthwhile to run a FMIC even if you don't want to cut out the fascia? I am talking about Camaros here. I have seen some FMICs on Camaros without the bumper cut and it looks like the air going through the two holes will go through the intercooler. Is this enough air flowing through the intercooler to make it worth while?

Thanks

Not really, there is a pressure drop assoicated with a intercooler, I don't know how much it will cool but it would be a LOT better if you were to get some black mesh or something and replace the front grill with that.

I forget who has done this but it looks really good.

If the intercooler is sized right and the internal fin is set up specifically for the sc/tc that it is intended for then yes. An intercooler (sized correctly) with basically no air flow to it will be at least 20% efficient. It doesnt take air flow for something to dissipate heat (but it sure helps).

Jimmy is correct heat transfer will take place, but the more air flow across the intercooler the more heat tranfer will take place and the coooler the air charge netting you better performance due to lower air temp etc... I know I am just repeating what Jimmy said but I was haveing a hard time really understanding it the way it was presented so I thought I'd give it to you in my words just in case you were like me LOL!

In average 35 degree temps I've been running average 54 degree IAT in the boost with an OBX with just the stock holes in the grill. I also have a big hole cut out in the middle of the grill for real airflow but it's been covered up by my front license plate all winter. In short, I would say the answer to your question is yes its worth it based on my experience. But if you can cut a bigger hole probably the more airflow the better.

I am putting a set of small electric fans on the back side of my front mount right now. And am going to spray it with a little n20 at full boost. I have a lt1 camaro front end so the intercooler is pretty much totally covered exept the bottom. I probly wont need the fans, but its always good to have it incase you need it instead of need it and not have it.

Any problems mounting a FMIC on an SS, some have said there would be issues, but I don't know what.

If you have the room shouldnt be any problems. If air flow is a problem we could just go with a thinner fin spacing to offset the issue.
