Default Vortech just installed, having idle and hiccup problems!

Just got done installing a vortech system with aftercooler #9 system and having some problems. If the car is moving at all the idle will stay @ 2000-2500 rpm's and will not drop down until car comes to a stop and then they will slowly drop down to normal. Also, If i let off the gas and just let the high idle move the car down the road it seems to hiccup every few seconds. Kinda like it looses power for a fraction of a second and then catches again. I had the computer sent out for a basic tune to get it running so I could get it to a dyno shop and have it fine tuned. I know he set it to run a little rich to be on the safe side. Do you think that might be or partly be to blame? Any help would be appeciated!!!
Thanks,
Bob

is your throttle blade sticking open a bit? Sounds like what I had to go through when I had to adjust my TB so that it would idle with the new cam.

Yeah check your throttle if it has crusie controle it will catch the cable on the TB and hold it open just pop you hood and with the car off open up the thorttle and see if it hangs on the aftercooler. I just had to make a few adjustments to get the proper clearance. I just loosened the clamps and mover the aftercooler a little to the passenger side of the car a little. Other than that I would think it would have to do with the tune. But I'd be willing to put money on my theory cause mine did the same thing untill I took a look. The vibration of the motor causes it to slowly slip back into place. The hicupping is just tunning I believe (Running rich etc...). Good luck let us know what it was.

Hey, It is possible for what you are describing to happen in the tune. There is a way to adjust how much it does that. My car is set up to drop to like 1300 when the clutch is pressed and stay there until the car comes to a complete stop, then it drops to like 750-800. I know it is adjustable because I drove the tuner around while he fine tuned the tune and that was part of it.

My car has a slight miss around 2000-2200 we really haven't been able to tune out the prob but it is something that I have got used to. Mine also is slow to idle down but not quite as bad as you described.

I had already checked to make sure the aftercooler wasn't stopping the full closing of the TB but it's has almost a 1/4" of clearence. Even when the clutch isn't pressed in it'll still keep up at around 2200-2300. In fact when i went threw town before i just left it in second gear and took my foot of the gas and just went threw town with the high idle powering me threw lol. The hiccuping I kinda thought might be from running rich. I had asked the tuner to run it a lil rich to be on the safe side till I got in on the dyno. I just wish I knew wether it's a tunning issue which could be easily fixed or something not phyiscally correct with the install and such.

hmm if you bought this kit new, vortech gives you a hand held programmer for a ball park tune. Hiccuping sounds like you're running too rich and drowning out your spark. Definitely check that throttle cable to see if its hanging up on anything , you don't want that thing to get stuck at wide open throttle. It should be fairly obvious to catch.

Take a pic and post up on here, me might be able to see what's goin on.

My car does the same thing. I can feel it pushing the car without any throttle, then at jumps up for a few seconds at a stop. I though it was a vacuum leak but I've checked the lines and also removed and re-installed the intake, but neither worked.

Mine did it with the turbo and still does it N/A. I then turned to the tuning, until I reprogramed it with a good n/a tune and still the same. It maybe a bad sensor (tps or iac) but both of mine are new so I'm kinda lost.

Let us know if you find the problem.

He bought the kit from me so the superchips tune was useless for him(it was locked to my vin). If he can make it to a shop safely for a tune then he probably shouldn't worry about trouble shooting the problem if he doesn't have access to read his PCM.

I have an appointment with TTP in NY on monday for a full dyno tune and the co-owner matt said he'd actually meet up with me before hand to give me a better baseline tune to help me out for th drive over to NJ. I just wanna find out before hand wether it's a tuning related program or not. I'd hate to drive all the way out to NJ and still have it running like this after the tune or have it affect the quality of the tune. I'm gonna run over to Auto Zone now and have them read the code or codes it's throwing threw the "service engine soon" light.

Well if your car has TCS then check the cable set up and make sure it is adjusted right. It's a long shot but a lot of people don't know that they are adjustable. Just guessing with out seeing the car I gave it my best guesses good luck.

Well I went to auto zone and had them check the codes and two came up... one was running lean on bank #2 at high rpm which surprised me cuz it's running pig rich@wot and the A/F guage is buried into the rich section on the gauge so that might of just been a freak thing becaue it only came on once. The other was something to do with the IAT saying there was a high moving idle. well DUH!!!! lol so i'm hoping thats a tuning issue.

well there you go, at least you know what's going on. I doubt it running lean, you might have a bad 02 sensor.

Let us know the numbers,
You can see mine in my sig.

What was the high idle code. If it is what Im thinking, it has to do with the TB blade being open too far. I had the same code before I had HPTuners and had to crank the TB screw up quite a bit to get my truck to idle after the cam install. Either there is something getting in the way of the linkage or the screw is up too high.
