Default Roots blower help needed!!

My boss is building a Weiand roots blown 383 for his 67 camaro. Its the 177 model. His engine is going to be built with all forged components and 8.5:1 compression. The techline at weiand stated that with 8.5:1 on 93 octane the most boost he can run is 6-7psi with a total timing of 28-34 degrees. Why is it plenty of FI guys here an on other sites can run 12-15psi on pump with LT1's and LS1's with centrifigals and turbos, but a roots blown forged 383 shouldnt go over 6-7psi?? Seems odd. I think they said his dynamic compression shouldnt be above 12:1 according to weiand.

I also told my boss to run lower timing (like 18-20 degrees) and just run more boost.

Does the weiand guy know what he is talking about?

It might be heat issues, the other styles normally run some sort of intercooler or do not produce as much heat as that type of set up.....

I would guess that whole set up is ineffecient but do see the point, heat and timing usually dont go together....interesting.

Now that I think about, i dont know of any blower kits out there that recommend running more than 6-7psi with charge cooling. Thats a good point. If that is the case, I assume my boss could make a ton more power with an intercooled vortech.

I was thinking that too, they make some nice blow thru designs now and would not have that big thing up out of the hood, be alittle more reserved and still kick ***.

LT1 are reverse cooled, and LS1's have a very efficient cyl. head.

-Iron heads? They retain more heat.
-Iron block? They retain more heat.
-No intercooler?

-Also the better the cylinder head the less timing you need.

It seems like it comes down to 6psi of unintercooled roots blower versus 12-15psi intercooled Vortech T trim. He just doesnt want it to be lazy off the line. I told him he'll roast his street tires with an N/A 383, let alone a blown one. He is caught up on the flat torque curve of the roots. I am trying t tell him that 12-15psi interooled T trim will murder a 6psi unintercooled 177 pro street blower.

in the upper rpm's it will. Hard to say down low.

If he wants flat, tell him to skip all that BS blower and put a turbo on.

It's not even a fair comparison. T-trim cool'd will make a lot more power.

T-Trim is rated for up to 825 fwhp.

D1SC has gone 700rwhp on the old Speed Inc. shop car but it was probably being overspun to get there.
