single Holset HX35 on a LS1?
has anyone here had any experiance with the Holeset HX35 on a LS1?
ive been looking for compressor maps or SOMETHING for the last 2 days, and came up empty. i not a LS1 newbie, but i am a new to forced induction...
im just trying to what the limit is going to be with this turbo.. and if its worth my time to put on.
if anyone here could help, id appreciate it.

I think you can find a comp. map for that turbo on turbomustangs.com. Do a search there.
I think that is a pretty small turbo (for a Holset) and mustang guys usually run 2 of them. I could be wrong though...going straight off memory.

for a holset, its a small turbo... i did a search on there.. a lot of searching. I'm on there with a diff user name. but nothing really came up.
it was mentioned several times that holset does not have any real compressor maps out there...
really, all im looking for is 600hp MAX.... that'll put me in the mid 500 rear wheel hp range... perfect for my street car.. and it should take care of those pesky LS7 vettes
thing is, i have no way of telling if that turbo is capable of that
granted, i can only go off external visual things ive seen from others cars, but it looks a little too big for a dual setup (i dont have room for a dual setup anyway) but im worried it might be too small
general searches shows ALOT of DSM, 4cyl ford, and honda guys seem interested in this "BIG" turbo..... and that seems promising in that its a huge turbo for them..... but their turbo goals are what i get for RWHP N/A.
i have a turbo friendly, wide LSA cam already, so i can hit 400rwhp without the turbo... i just need a LITTLE boost to get that extra 150rwhp...

when you say too small, do you mean, too small to grow into and make more power..... or too small to support boost on a LS1?
im only looking for a MAX of 6 psi.. this is a street car first.... its just that a street car with a turbo is more well behaved then a street car with heads/cam...
tonight is my only chance to return this turbo if its too small... after that, its mine.
will it work to support the HP im asking for or not?

I still say take it back. I just don't think it will move any more air than a 60-1 or 62-. It will get you to 400-450 maybe...but why sell yourself so short...is it really that cheap? Get an HC1 or something.
EDIT..I just read it has a 56mm inducer. That's pretty small.

Remember to double (estimating) the power numbers for each of those turbo's since that chart is for diesels. It says the 35 is good for 500 or less hp. Tooooooo smmmaallll. Think HX50 or larger.

well, i got a HX-40 from him. much bigger, athough it still looks small.. lol.
i still have the HX-35 though.. deals a deal, and i didnt want to back out.. its a popular turbo though, so im sure someone would want it...
i think the 40 will work for now... i'll just leave enough room for a bigger turbo later on.
new question... the HX40 has a internal wastegate... anyone know about them? will it go low enough for me? in the app they're designed for, they run ALOT more PSI then i intend to...
i still have the HX-35 though.. deals a deal, and i didnt want to back out.. its a popular turbo though, so im sure someone would want it...

I personally feel you will get better spoolup if you change the housing to a Non-Wastegated housing, and then run the external gate.
The way a WG'd housing, and a non WG'd housing differe internally just lead me to assume a nonWG'd housing has much better airflow...

I'm kinda on a tight budget, and I think I can get a few Holsets for pretty cheap, so that's what I'm thinking about doing. I know that the HY35s are an alternative as well, and I can get them as well. One other question, can I fit a 3" downpipe through the crossmember on the driver's side if I use the 6.0 manifolds?

Well it seems the dsm world is starting to use the holeset more and more.HX 35 and HX 40 and hybrid HX35/40.They can make big power over 600hp on the small 2.0 engines but guess mabye one is too small on the ls1 but buddy was running an 60-1 on his dsm before the holeset and he said the holeset is better..
The holesets spool fast, are very tough..have been used in diesels for quite a bit
and really the only new technology much better is the ball bearing stuff but there are still arguments if the ball bearing turbos are that reliable. The holset have proven to be. I would go garett if don't go holset on my dsm. I have heard way too many bad stories of turbonetics to buy one of them. My big garett that had in my 92 dsm was great no complaints .
I would think two HX 35 would be pretty darn good combo.

The only issue I have with the HX35 is the large A/R ratio, which might not br the best for a twin setup. I know that there is a company making different turbine housings for the HX series, so I may look into that as well.
