STS guys, or anyone! Low Low voltage???

Default STS guys, or anyone! Low Low voltage???

Hey guys I just put a new engine in my 98 Z28 along with my previously installed STS kit. When I start the car and for a few minutes after the voltage is around 15.
But after that the voltage drops way below 13 and gets into the red especially at idle. I have a brand new redtop Optima and a brand new alternator which have both been checked and re-checked again to make sure they're good. If I don't keep the rpm's goin I start losing spark and then missfiring. Before the new motor I had the sts kit for a few months and never had any problems, but now I do. I have checked ALLL the grounds and negative wires to the block, heads and frame and they're all good. Anyone out there have any ideas? Anything will help, it sux havin a new forged 370 you can't drive. Thanks (and if there's a better forum to take this, tell me)

He's not sure??? But he also hasn't had lots of time to check things thouroughly.

Is the new motor using an underdrive pulley set?

Nope, no pulleys, it's all stock. And I put a new belt in case the other was slipping

How close is your hot side pipe to the alternator/regulator?

The bigger cubes and heat from the hot side of the turbo kit could be heat soaking the regulator and still allow the alternator itself to pass the test.

The quick check would be to put the old alternator back on (if you didn't replace it from a previous failure) and see how it looks.

Thanx Rick. My turbo piping runs from the back to the front below the alternator to a front mount intercooler, its nowhere near the alternator. The alternator is in the stock spot, it's just bolted to an iron block. I know lots of guys with a 6.0 and the alternator in the same place as me that haven't had any problems though. Is the regulator built in to the alternator? Oh and I had to give the alternator back for a core charge.

i dont know if this will help , i had a low volt symptom from the alt. i was about to replace it when i noticed the no 1 or 3 plug wire arching to the alt , i was happy it was an easy fix, maybe you have alredy checked that area,
