Default Any STS users out there?

I'm wondering if any other STS users out there have or had the same problem as me. When I go to the track I have incredibly horrible track times (sig) I want to curse and scream and just hacksaw the STS off the car but when I get back on the street, I fall in love w/ the car because from a roll I almost can't be touched and that's just w/ 5#'s. I still don't know where my problem is on the track.
I'm not putting down any power through first. Could it be a transmission problem? Nelson Performance did my tune and I feel like they should be experts at it by now. (EVEN THOUGH they stole my computer and haven't seemed to return any of my calls for a week!!! An entirely different story though.) So I'm thinking that it's not the tune. Any suggestions?

Looks like traction is a problem, since your ET's are still 13.8. Though you should be trapping more than 111mph. Go get a tune from Jeff Creech I think I was told that you got tuned by DTP. Jeff tuned my car with the TR224 cam and I put down 367rwhp, took it to the track and ran 12.3 @ 115mph.

Maybe you are just not getting into the power band quick enough, what gears are you running?

Yeah, something doesn't sound right. What's your total setup? With the setup below in sig, I turned the boost down to 6 psi, and was in the middle of tuning it, and I ran a 12.2@116. That was at 10.5:1 A/F, and conservative timing. And that's a 6 speed. Do you have a stall converter?

My car has hooker LT's, 42# inj. STS e. boost controller, obx fmic, nelson perf. tune, B & M shift kit, and my A/F at WOT is 13.7:1. Horribly lean? Yeah, but my 255 walbro is in the mail so maybe I should be taking it easy and not to the track. Stock everything else.

You are lucky that you haven't cracked the #7 piston ringland yet, with your lean air/fuel ratio. I wouldn't be going wide open throttle anymore until you get a tune. Bob

To lean, too bad. I agree, I wouldn't run that thing until you get your A/F right.

I would also suggest a verter as well.... That will definately help with getting you into the powerband quicker and staying there.

A verter helped my car dramatically but I think your tune is way off. With a stock verter though the car will leave the line very lazy. Mine went 12.42 with a 2200 verter and stock motor.

You NEED a converter to wake that turbo up at the line and get it spooled. I would suggest a 3200-3500.

I think red91z meant a 3200 converter.

With everyone's opinion about what is going wrong with my car, I think it's very safe to say that the second reduction STS tries to advertise if you just bought their kit is rediculous. It's so hard for me not to just throw it back on the rack and rip that kit off. I get more displeased with that kit the more i talk about it.

Toss in a converter and youll knock 1/2 second off.
Let me get this straight, your complaining when you havent had it tuned correctly.

However, Turbos, and certainly STS kits are not always good from a dig...they make for fun street cars. Hell, look at the 600+HP Supras that still only net 1.9 60s.

Complaining?? I've spent a total of 1100$ to get this damned thing tuned. Excuse me if I'm gettin' a little pissed off when people can't get it done right. Good day.

I've got an STS on my 99 Z28 and love it. but yea your 111 trap speed does sound low. I did a 13.2 at 112 mph with an MTI lid, Mac headers and ORP and cut out on street tires. but hey, if yoiu want to hacksaw and rip every STS part off the car, ill take it with open hands and throw it on my 93 Z.

If you keep paying to tune it, and you havent got all the supporting items, thats your fault. Hate to point out the obvious, but you NEED a higher stall, built for turbo applications, and the fuel pump etc...then start spending your $1000 on tuning. If you dont build the boost at the line, you wont run for ****. While your at it, get some tires so when you do launch under boost, your car can hook and book rather than spin half track and you post up "WTF is wrong with my car" again. Listen to these guys, TC, Fueling, tuning, Tires.

From what i've seen here on the boards, STS claim of a second off isn't bullshit.
What's screaming in your face right now is TUNING!!!!! The tune you have sucks if you are at 13.7. 13.7 isn't horribly lean, its flat out parts breaking, motor destroying lean on a boosted application.

So what if you've spent 1000 bucks on tunes, seems your tuner(s) suck ***** at tuning so why go back???? Find a decent place to tune your ride. Another member suggested you go to jeff creach...go to him whats it going to hurt...if anything your can't run any worse after his tune.

Safe street/strip tune on a boosted app should be 11.5 to 11.7-1 PERIOD.

Do a leakdown test on your engine, with that tune I wouldn't doubt there is damage to the pistons...especially if you are beating on it at the track. First start off by checking you plugs, prolly melted off a few electrodes...check for bits of aluminum on the plugs....if there is a lot...definately do a leak down or have on performed for you.

Some advice, don't beat on the car, take it to the track or dyno until you know the tune is in the ball park or optimized. If not you'll be posting that you tossed a piston and blame the STS kit. You can't just slap the kit on the car, get a tune that you know sucks and run decently.

On a stock car with an STS kit at 5-7 psi any LS1 should be in the 12s.

i think the main problem is that he is still on the stock pump and needs more fuel and yes better tuning. You need to really ask the local cali guys on this board where they go for tuning, you will then find out who is really good and go to them....

I hope someone does something good on their STS kit. I didn't spend 1000$ all in one place. I took it once to a place locally in chesapeake and dear god, I might have had a 11:1 fuel ratio but I was only putting down 354/375, the 2nd place I had it tuned was Nelson Performance, the shop STS recommends you get your car tuned from, and while the numbers are better I still hate this kit. I agree that I shouldn't run the car hard w/ such a lean A/F ratio. I'm out. MODS please close this thread. It's not serving any useful purpose. All people plan on doing is flamespraying.
