Default Newbie questions....

I'm probably gonna break a bunch of the minor rules here, but please bear with me. I have the worlds slowest internet connection, so searching is a major PITA. Been lurking for a couple weeks, just purchased a 99 Z28. This is meant to be my "practical" car, a daily driver. The car was cheap, in excellent shape, but has 130k miles. It is a 6 spd car.

So, now the questions: Supercharge, Turbo, or Nitrous? I know the pro's and con's of all, (ok, maybe not ALL the pro's and con's!) but am looking for opinions. What brand, and where to buy? I am leaning away from Nitrous, as I want something that I don't have to turn on and off, and I don't have room for a bottle. I'd really like a nice simple setup that is maintenance free and I can run on mid grade fuel. I know, I should run super no matter what, but looking for the practical side.

The other questions, that are probably in the wrong forum, but I will cross-post as well:

What brake rotors and pads? Remember, daily driver....

What exhaust? I don't want too loud, just something a bit beefier sounding.

Thanks to all in advance!

If I was you I would go for the sts setup. most complete and simple kit out there yet makes tons of power. Heres one of the best places to get it www.trtturbo.com

well, first off, your car was ment to run on premium unleaded from the factory, so putting a power adder PLUS less than recommended fuel is not a grat idea, but if you must...

I too was going to suggest the sts turbo kit. can be installed in a few hours and is basically your entire exhuast system too.

Just for saftey since you want to run sub-par fuel, you might want to run water injection to make up for that to ensure you dont pop your motor.

You're also going to need a clutch.

I am of the mindset that the computer will pull enough timing to make the mid grade be ok for trips, and for general use, I can run hi-test. Will make some tests to see what is reasonable.

Will check the turbo kit out... thanks for the link!

What do you recommend for a clutch? How about a shifter?

Thanks!

on a stock motor the computer may be able to pull enough timing to keep you from pinging, but on a FI motor you're going to have major detonation with sub-par fuel, IMO it isnt worth the risk.

Well first off... you should have at least enough money to replace your engine if your gonna try to run mid grade fuel with an fi setup... Then i'd probably agree, the sts kit will work fine for a practical daily driver.

I would go with a spec stage 2or3 for your setup. Both would do fine for that and you wouldnt have to worry about clutch problems.Shifter either Pro5.0 or B&M Ripper.

Ok, so I guess I'll have to run super.... I plan on running the motor stock for a while, but part of the reasoning behind a cheap 130k mi car was so it can get a real motor before too long, I don't have to feel guilty about spending the money that way. Figuring on doing a stroker for it, probably heads and some other goodies, within 12 months. Am assuming at that point I will have exceeded the 10 bolts melting point and have to go 9" or 12 bolt, True Track or something similar, 4.10's (ish??) etc. So just trying to do a reasonable step at a time approach.

The "spec" clutch, who makes it, where do I get it? Need more info please....

Sounds stupid, but not used to playing with street car stuff, I play with 2k hp all day everyday, can't figure out this 300-1000 hp stuff yet.

Thanks!

Without lowering your compression ratio lower grade fuel with forced induction is asking for problems, if your too cheap to buy good fuel then you can't afford a F/I car.
