what part of the turbo makes the wooshing noise... Im not talkin abou the BOV, im talking about when your lets say in full boost.
for example, take the vid of mecham and the supra. that whooshing noise while the rpm's increase. basically that "rushing water" sound.
is that exhuast escaping from the wastegate, or is it the turbo itself spooling, or what is it?
I think besides the BOV, thats my fav noise, i LOVE it when its sound and "whooshy".

damn that was one high pitched turbo!!!! but i just have to laugh at the thread title, i dunno, found it comical for some odd reason. but ya jose hit the nail on the head. just alot of air being forced into a small place.

Its all about how much you compress the air. For instance these gas engines in these movies are running pretty decent boost. Anywhere from 20-40psi, and some a little more. Now the ultimate in whoosh sound are the tractor pullers with compound turbos running north of 160psi of boost

The whistle of a spooled turbo is amazingly intoxicating. I love the video of the GN putting 1k rwhp down on the dyno... reminds me of a Jet engine, which has alot of similarities to the way a turbo operates. BOVs can get annoying.... mine did in my SRT-4 Anyway.
