Anyone relocated your stock fans to the front of the radiator?

Default Anyone relocated your stock fans to the front of the radiator?

Well, my (used) procharger kit will be shipping to me very soon. I am a little concerned with the way that the new setup only utilizes 1 fan for the radiator. I was wondering if anyone has reversed the stock fans & shroud and put them in front of the radiator? All you'd have to do is switch the wires around on the motors, and they would spin the other way, and become a "pusher" instead of a "puller" fan... Is there enough room up there? Just something I was wondering, and contemplating doing once I install mine, and wanted to know if it has been done before... Thanks for any input or info guys

You don't want to put a shroud on the intake of anything unless you "want" a restriction. In this case, your fans would run a lot more to keep the engine cool.

I cant see it working to well. I upgraded my radiator when I installed my system, vs the stock radiator. I went with a larger core unit from SLP, might even be others out there that sell them. On top of that I think you would run into clearance problems towards the top front portion of the radiator. So you would have to go to a much samller fan on the front. I have heard others using a smaller pusher in front with the puller in the rear as well.........

The stock fans won't fit in front of the radiator with the A/C still there, no way in hell. I suppose if you bent the radiator itself backwards you could fit the stock fans in front of it without the A/C there, but why would you want to? For 75 dollars, I got a single 16" slim fan that moves something like 2500 CFM and mounted it in front of the radiator and A/C and I have no overheating problems. Just my $.02

Thanks for the input everyone. Maybe the best thing to do is just getting a thin pusher fan as EightBallTTA mentioned.

The SLP radiator is really an LT1 radiator with a couple of the ports epoxied up. You can get an LT1 radiator in your town for around $140 and epoxy it yourself for any one looking for more cooling on a budget. There is info on here about this if anyone is interested. Nice upgrade for the $$

Jegs and Summit have some very nice slimline fans that are pretty affordable and easily adaptable.

So the real question is, what push fans do people use with the phamspeed kit, and can the push style fans be used with the A/C still in place?

is it nessasery to have another fan in the front? was the kit designed to have another one put it? (I dont know about procharger setups, thats why i'm asking)

Check out the "How hot should I be?" thread in this forum for info on installing the Spal dual 11" fans. There is some trimming to do and they aren't cheap, but they work very well.

When I had my Procharger kit I had no cooling issues. I was using an 16" Spal fan, its a great upgrade over the ATI fan. You cannot reverse the stock fans because the blades on the fans are meant to pull air and would do a horrible job trying to push air. Armagedon used dual Flex-a-lite fans for his Phamspeed install. He said they slid right in in front of the A/C condensor without any problems.

The thing about the fan set-up from ATI is that having the driver side of the radiator covered keeps hot air from blowing onto the head unit. The air that comes though the radiator is HOT, especially at running temp or higher. A hot head unit will reduce power and reduce the actual life of the head unit. If you run dual pushers in the front, you may need to fab something up to block hot air from hitting the head unit. Sure the head unit runs warm anyways, but every degree counts.
