I had a local machine shop do mine, but if you have a tig welder I would suggest giving it a shot yourself - its not that hard if you take your time and have the right tools.

I just built a set. The collectors were the most difficult. Lot's of work! What do people even charge for a set of 321 double slip fit headers like this I wonder. Make sure you use good materials. I imagine if they are not off the shelf, they will be big money!

Nice work!

How long did it take you to do those? Did you also have to machine the flat stock or can you buy that stuff setup for the LS1 heads? Why did you make them slip fit, is there an advantage to doing them that way?

I think PTK sells mild-steel header flanges, but I don't know if anyone sells 321 or 304 flanges. Maybe Hi-Flow will now that they are in the game?

I did not keep track of the hours to build. Maybe 40-60 hours total. It was tough to make the collectors. I made them from scratch. I imagine a set would cost about $3000 + I went slip fit to allow the pipes room to move when they expand and contract. I bought the head flanges through a source of mine. You can use 304 flanges. They don't see nearly as much heat as the tubes being that they are bolted to heatsinks ( head, wastegate, turbo). They are nice pieces.

Those are great looking pieces but you have the added advantage of more space under the hood of that chevelle vs. an LS1 F-body.

Ok, now, explain slip fit to me.

Turbo Applications that have slip fits usually are double slip. Similer to a male/female weatherpack.

Since conventional slip headers would most likely leak under turbo backpressure ( north of 50 psi on the higher boost cars) People build a second slip to aid in sealing.

Burns does an excellent Job at them, but expect to pay a premium. http://burnsstainless.com/MergeColle...ollectors.html

Ahhh, cool. I figured it was something of that nature, just wasn't sure. The collectors are pricey, but if you can well, you can probably save yourself some time and $$$ by buying the collectors and then bending your own zoomies into them.

I was thinking the way to go would be to buy the flanges and collectors and do the rest of the fabbing myself in 321 SS, I think it would be worth it to spend $250 on these pieces and another couple of hundred for the pipes. Since I'd want to support the turbos partial with the headers, I don't think the slip-fits would work very well for my application, or am I wrong?

You have me thinking now, I have a Miller tig and plenty of 321 wire!

BTW, what are the best ways to cut 321?
