Default help me pick another cam

considering pulling out the 236/231, .601/.594, 115*

i don't see that i gained anything from it on the track or dyno. i have only seen drawbacks like low speed driveability and mileage

my 9 sec. pass was with my stock 98 cam. i think i still have that around somewhere but i'm kinda afraid to take that big of a step back.

i know that lingenfelter comes up with some really trick cams for the turbo stuff.. something in that 'style' sounds up my alley.

toss up some idears.. also if you wanna give an offer on my current cam

here is what i need the cam to work with

pte88, 6 speed, 366ci, cleaned up all pro heads, i will need to wind it out around 6500 to get through the traps and i don't want the cam to kill peak hp...but if it kills torque well i wouldn't mind that at all as long as it was in trade for horsepower.

thanks.

i told kurt i'm looking for a diff. cam.. ive told him that before... the above one was done thru cammotion. i'm sure it 'works' but its just too big and nasty for me when it doesnt need to be.

i dont think wheel has received the motor yet.

you dunno what a broke piston looks like?

David, you don't need more then a 220 to 224 duration to reach 6500. Also thats a heck of a lift for a turbo motor, and no need for it. The 88 will push the air through whether its a stock cam or big cam. It may change the hp output per lbs of boost, but it will still be within 1-2psi. Plus you will gain driveability and some mileage back.

Dave I spoke with W2W a few months back about some All Pro's and a cam choice. They told me that one of the cams they like is the 385 horse Z06 cam. I am sure you have spoken with them about cams. Just food for thought.

I am looking at a custom ground comp in the 236/236 114-LSA range... Its a turbospec lobe profile probably like the 230/230 114lsa Forced inductions has in their project SS..

I am also looking at all pros

when you ran that nine on the stock cam was it stock cubes as well? cant remember.

you probably need just to bump down the duration and lift.
not sure how your car drives but you should use that as a reference. (im not sure how that cam reacts with your 370 cubes.

maybe a 228/224-115 with a .581 lift.
not sure how tame that will be.

David I had a zo6 cam a long time ago. Now i have a 215/215 .523 114
I'd like to see someone try something along the lines of a 112-113 lsa....I would have but I was afraid it would lope. I had a 231/226 115 cam before this one....I basically got what you said, less mileage and low rpm torque.

jerry, something i see in common with the zo6 cam and all of lpe's turbo cams is BIG lobe sep, 117-120* i dunno how you can go against what they do and think 112 is the right direction to go... but im not smaat mayun.

ya my nine was stock cam, stock cid, 19psi & gt80-r turbo

So having huge amounts of lift, arent really of any benefit with a blower ??

How much is enough ?? I'd have thought the only downside to having a lot of lift, is valvetrain reliability ?

A stock cam for a grand national is 107 l/s tight lobe center works better with turbos on small duration cams. Remember we are looking at overlap and a cam that is say 204 @ .050 on a 108 might have less overlap than a 230 duration cam on a 114. Look at event timing and make sure the exhaust does not open too early. The Z06 cam needs to be wide because of the big split. That big turbine wheel in the 88 will also like about 4 extra degres on the exhaust side I would suggest a 224/228 112 is the tighest I would go with that duration. 114 is the most. Using an X-ER lobe on the intake to open the valve fast and a regular lobe on the exhaust to open it slow works good too. Getting the intake open as fast you can is a benifit but we don't want to open the exhaust as fast. PM or e-mail me some head numbers and rocker ratio and I will be happy to work up my opinion and give you the lobe numbers to work with.
