Question Bigger piping on a STS

I am wondering about putting a STS on a 427ci I was told it would cost an extra 2grand just for the equipment. what is so different from what I gather the 427 uses all the same exhaust components as the ls1/ls6 except maybe headers. Can anyone clue me in on this? help with someone that won't b.s. me for pricing, install and tune. thanx

Possibly someone thought you meant a 427ci big block Chevy?

More cubes are going to allow the STS to spool much faster, not a bad thing. Bob

so the ls6 427 wouldn't have to have bigger piping? what I am saying it that it isn't necessary and would I have to go with a big turbo or can I run smaller trims

Ideally, you want as big of pipe as you can get, within reason. The turbo provides the backpressure for the engine, so your DP you would want rather large.

If you meant the exhaust system as a whole, then imo, yes, you would want larger headers, and a larger exhaust system.

Think of it this way, its more air trying to get out, so it needs more piping if you are referencing a 427 vs. the normal LS1.

I would just use the GT67 with the larger housing, and two fuel pumps and 60lb injectors. Bob

You are limited in the size pipe you can run on an f-body unless you do all custom pipe. There is a pipe upgrade you can get that changes a couple of pieces. Feel free to give me a call if there is anything I can do to help.

thanx for hooking me up with info. man you got the hook up. you should list your hook ups with the club so the next time we run out and buy something we can talk to you first. where did you get the engine bored at? but if Billy can hook me up I might start looking into it sooner than expected

Yeah billy is a good person if you want to go ahead and buy it then let me know billy will hold on to it untill are ready to put it on its better for you know because you will have the money i will start pricing all the stuff you will need and some add on goodies but here is a list of stuff you will need with the turbo
60lb fuel injectors
255lph or higher fuel pump
intercooler
tr6 ngk plugs
boost controller
blow off valve i know you have an auto but it will save your turbo if you come out off the throttel fast
now for the add ons
snow performance meth kit
stall converter 3000+ to help build boost off the line
cam a zo6 cam will work fine but if you want a bigger one then call speed inc
harden push rods and 918 comp springs
oh heads get 317 there 6.0 heads low compression they are the same as the zo6 but with bigger bowls to help with the compression i price some through gm for540 a pice
i got with tammy she is cool
and if you want call scoggin dicky for a short block
take your time and shop and save money i will do my part and let you kno w what i find

Well I am getting most of what with the 427 but the fuel pump and that size injectors. are those 6.0L head aluminum? not too sure if I want to buy yet still need a rear end first and just looking I have ngk plugs right now but not sure if they are the tr6s. I think most of that stuff comes with the kit right? or is it all extra stuff that I have to purchase? was thinking about getting different pushrods anyway mine might not work with the new set up seeing as though they are for that Z06 cam that I have in there already and why would I need a meth inj I don't quite understand that one? and what is a turbo timer actually for I know people say I would need one but what does it do?

majority of the stuff comes with the kit minus the fuel injectors turbo timer 6.0L heads are aluminum they are the lQ9 heads 2002 and up trucks lQ4 are iron 1997-00 meth is chemical collant it helps suppress detnoation and cools the intake charge from the turbo it sprays like nos but dosent increase the cylinder pressure it will help if you are running more than 8psi and its stupid cheap a turbo timer lets your car run to cool down the turbo you know if you run hard on a turbo the just shut it off it will cook your oil sts dosent really require on but its cheap insurance and they sell for about 50-200 dollars in summit and other places it progams it self or times it self depending how hard you run your car hey got to go to work now i willl finish later
