Default Best pistons to get to 9:1?

If someone wanted to get to 9:1 and already had ported heads, would you recommend just low comp pistons or low cr pistons AND a thicker head gasket?

Also, which pistons are the hot ticket to get 9:1 cr in an LS1?

Anything else to upgrade if they are doing a low budget rebuild?

What is low budget to you?

Ross or JE make good forged pistons. A 12cc dish will get you to about 9:1 with heads that haven't been shaved much.

Don't use a thicker head gasket as it will probably have a tendancy to fail.

JE's are good pistons for sure.

A good dished piston should do the trick. Have the heads cc'd to make sure of your numbers.

I would not recommend thicker head gasket as this will increase your quench height which may increase chances of detonation.

Dished pistons or maybe increase chamber volume are two ways to reduce compression.

I'm not looking to really skimp on pistons but what is being used right now by the big boys to make good power without a bore/stroke rebuild?

Did you sell your motor you had for sale a couple of months ago?

Still have it. The guy that bought my tubo setup is wanting it. Last I heard, he was saving the money. But as of now, it is still available, and it is solid. Ran in the shootout last week with 200-shot and it ran great. Oil pressure never faltered and the temp gauge never went above 195 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Email me if you'd like.
