LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !

Re: LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !
Does it seem odd that the torque is soo high and the power peak is soo low (I mean at a low rpm)? Shouldn't it make more power with a better fuel system?

Yes 534 rwhp is a lot but at 4900rpm? I would think you'd get max hp at 5600rpm or even higher. Would a SY3500 be a good stall for a setup like this?

Im pretty sure the kit comes with a boost controller. Mind you, this kit has EVERYTHING needed for a turbo setup! Show them DSM boys what's up with a 540 RWHP and almost 700 ft/lbs of torque beast!!!

The ricers seem to agree that 18 psi is the most you should have on pump gas. I dont see why it would be any different for domestics.

Also many other cars even many domestics don't have trouble keeping the heads down like Ls1's do. I don't think you will see too many pump gas 18 psi Ls1 motors.

18psi..!! Who needs to run 18psi? Even on a forged 346ci shortblock 15psi should be more than enough to take care of your competitors.. With the proper tuning and your compression around 9.1:1 or lower that should be doable. This is on pump gas. I personally think a H/C car with 10psi is going to be a monster turbo setup period. I am guessing around 650rwhp with the proper tuning and setup.. 15psi and you are talking about CRAZINESS!!! You would pretty much double your NA rwhp and your torque would be SICK! Everytime you floor it on DR's you will be sideways for sure. If you ever get traction the race would be over.. Drivetrain parts will fly apart. I do not know if the M6 could take that kind of abuse if you race a lot.. You might have to go with 2.73 gears just so it wont spool up too fast.. 4.10's would be out of the question. 6th gear would take you over 200mph for sure.. Not a car that you would want someone to borrow. Actually. You would be unbeatable on the street for sure.. If you can learn how to control all of that power..

Re: LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !
SO...does this new grind that Thunder's testing, the 230/224, sound like a good cam for a single turbo setup???
How about the 111 lsa? This, on an A4, of course with tuning. I know the masses say 114 is best but even Rob said he prefers the 112 so is 111 gonna pose any hiccups with a turbo or what?
I can't afford $6000 right now but I consider myself in the prep stages while still bumping up my HP. That gives me time to watch the betas with different setups.

Rob, i dont intend in the least to rain on you're parade but it seems that lingenfelter has ya beat for the "fastest forced induction LS1" title.
and by more than half a second to boot. ;D looks like it's time for a 422 w/ another t-series huffer wouldnt you say?

Rob,
I'm in the market for a turbo kit for my 422, and was interested to see if you could send me a pic of the manifold?
Thanks,

Just to point out a correction - Rob's web page lists his car as the fastest LS1 F-body. The twin turbo vette is obviously not an f-body. Im not knocking the vette mind you - just making a point. Those are awesome times.

Re: LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !
Everyone is talking about lowering compression in the name of making "room" for higher boost levels... I can't help but wonder if the 6.0L heads (with their larger chambers and improved exhaust ports over the LS1 heads) wouldn't be a (relatively) inexpensive way to drop the compression. It'd be easier than swapping in a different set of pistons, for sure.
As for what someone was talking about, the low RPM power peak could easily have something to do with the STUPID amount of torque that that car lays down... per the formula for calculating horsepower ({torque * RPM}/5252), it could be that the "sweet spot" in the torque curve comes in at a relativley low RPM. Either way, it's nothing to complain about... everyone thinks that RPM stands for "Revolutions Per Minute", but what it really stands for is "Ruins People's Motors"... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Seriously, though... the low RPM power peak will contribute to the longevity of the motor.
