LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !

Re: LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !
GREAT numbers!!
I wonder what your fuel pump, line and injector requirement would be for a 9.5:1 HCI car?
That turbo is gravity fed right? What were the ambient temps for the testing? are you running a front mount intercooler?
Imagine this kit with:
230/230 XE-R based cam
Forged 9.5:1 pistons
Good set of ported heads with 2.02 1.60 valves
and a killer fuel setup and injector.
Boggles the mind haha
Great work guys, very impressive

So what area of price range do you think this kit and install will be. 4-6,000, 6-10,000, 10-15,000 or 15,000+
I'd like to know because if it's in the price range I feel is right, I'll save up for the kit, already have $6,000 but I'm tempted to buy something for my car and I've also been looking at motorcycles.

and a single turbo kit does not sound like a blower... sorry, had to get ya on that one. i knew what you meant though. just because the cam isnt intake biased (for a turbo) or exhaust biased (for a blower) doesnt mean it wont give a viable increase in power comparitively to the same set up with the stock cam. it may a tad less that a cam of the same size with the proper config (intake bias in this situation), but it will increase overall output.

i would guess that at that level, between a 234/230 and a 230/230 you'd be giving up 10-15 in certain areas (slightly past peak according to Patrick's dyno) by going with the single duration. but all that could be wrong...im not an FI masta. basically an intake biased cam is making sure that the cylinder is ALWAYS full. that equals power in some way or another (the higher the cylinder pressure the more power you get...as in N2O and FI).

Turbos and blowers have different requirements as to cam specs. Remember Turbos are exhaust driven and generally like less exhaust duration than a blower cam.
Vince, that cam will perform fine on a blower car. I would consider a XE-R 226/230 cam though depending on P to V clearance but the 226XE-R will be fine as long as you maintain 114LSA.
Cheers,
Chris

Good numbers Rob!! While my car is down, I am trying to address some of the ineffeciencies of my turbotech kit. Can you give me an idea of spool up time? It seems I would see 8 psi right around 3300 rpms with the t-76. I may go to a smaller exhaust housing to get that down some. What size downpipe did you end up with and what size crossover?

Another Question for ls1motorsports. How much weight did the Agostino ls1 iron block weigh compared to the stock motor? How did you get the car up to 38xxlbs? The car itself must weigh around 3700lbs. That's almost 300lbs more then stock.

Chris I am going to run NA for a year and save up for the blower and stuff.. I chose the lsa of 112 for now. I will change cams for my new application.. I am going to go with whatever the vendor doing my setup suggests..

Re: LS1 Motorsports Single Turbo - 534rwhp / 687rwtq !
Rob - Any further info on the kit?
I am currently thinking about buying a forum member's 422 and was thinking about your kit after I get "bored" of the 422
The engine is currently getting freshened up so I could potentially influence which pistons, cam, etc. are put back in the block.
If I wanted to get in the neighborhood of 600 rwhp and 650 rwtq but stay 100% streetable and reliable, will I need the 7psi or 9psi kit?
Would an ARE 422 with all forged internals hanldle the 7 or 9 psi without dropping the compression?
Thanks,
Dan

That's it, ive decided. I'm having my engine rebuilt to handle boost and later this summer I'll be purchaseing this bad boy.
Rob, please don't make this thing tooooo expensive!!!!!

Been watching the kit progress Rob and you certainly have my attention, ONE QUESTION THOUGH would you be able to work a boost controller into the kit i want to run a super conservative 3-5psi for street and then the 7-9 psi for when i really want throw down. I do plan on getting some pistons as well to drop the compression a little, agian just to play it safe and add some life to the car.

But with that much variance in boost, you'd have to very carefully select the right injectors, the fuel system would have to match the demands of both strategies, and it seems you'd need the ability to run two programs/tunes between the two boost levels.
Am I wrong, here?

A piggyback FI system would be required for that much variation. I did it on my Igl, but I had the EFISystems PMS. Even then it required an alternate set of parameters, and a new base fuel pressure because of the mombo (for a 2.0L) 720cc injectors.
I don't see a way into this.

I was thinking to have it tuned to the 7psi of course but just being able to lower it to around 5psi for the street, or perhaps through 1st or second gear heheheh, traction control.
