Narrowed it down to 2 head gaskets..help
Ok decision desisions
Some people are useing cosmetic gaskets
others are using GM MLS gaskets.
Any opinions on which are better. Would like to go with the MLS cause cheaper, but i dont want to be replacing them again in 2 months. will their bolts hold?
Harlan the part numbers you gave me for the gasket set will that work with my 99.
Im also looking on switching to 6.0 heads will they still work with it.

The Cometic gaskets are used by LPE on their TT and ARE uses them also. I'm sure they are the best, but they are the most expensive for sure.
My notes are below. They have a couple versions including their newest ring'd boost gasket if you want the stock size. If you want to go thicker to drop your C/R, you can't use the ring'd type cuz I don't think they are available in .078" size, but they may be as I type this now.

There is the Viton coated MLS Gasket and then a new 'HP' series gasket with a new ring inlaid.
Expect $150 for stock size and more for thicker.

GWP considers the Cometics to be the best choice for keeping the heads down.

Let me ask you guys this... HOW does a $200+ pair of head gaskets work better then a pair of $25 head gaskets if a car is detonating and lifting the heads, etc??? Are there tech papers that explain the differences between all the different head gaskets and their pro's and con's?
So what do you guys that keep lifting heads do? Shell out $200 bucks each time to replace the gasket?

Well due to me now being indebted, not just broke, I think im gonna go with the MLS.
any one know which part number i'll need for my 99 ls1 block with 6.0 heads?
Will this work. Im not to concerned with a thicker gasket since i'll be about 4cc larger in the chambers, but i would like to be a low 9:1 compression, maybe about 9.0:-9.5:1 somewhere around there. any one know what ill be at or how to get there.

The cometic gaskets are reuseable ask me how i know.... I got the "boost" gaskets from cometic. They have a sort of oring made into them that is supposed to help seal the cylinder better. I wouldnt do anything other than stock composite gaskets if you arent going with studs...i think the bolts are the real weak link

If you can tell me how the MLS differ from the cometic gaskets, more power to you
the MLS are a center metal core that handles the combustion sealing, with two outer spring steel layers that deal w/ the coolant to chamber sealing. Both sides are raised rings on the spring steel with viton coating on all sealing areas. Sounds pretty similar.
If your going 6.0 heads on a 5.7 block you'll need the 6.0 gaskets. Otherwise the sealing rings are very close if not in the chamber.
FWIW, the graphite gaskets do well if your nice to them
