Is it smart to buy a used turbo kit? I mean, assuming you get just about everything in the kit, is it wise?
Is the turbo itself likely to have something wrong with it even if the previous owner didn't know about it. How long do turbos last?

Re: Is it smart to buy a used turbo kit? Well, I got a used turbo kit. The turbo was just rebuilt, unused, so i lucked out.
Cablebandit also got a used one.
Just check over the turbo to make sure everything is in order.
So say they last 60k other say longer. We will find out eventualy.

Re: Is it smart to buy a used turbo kit? One thing with my used kit was that there was a lot of missing parts that wernt known. so just make sure you get everything like even the power steering lines.

1.) it took me 6 fuking months and the threat of a lawsuit to finaly get the kit shipped
2.) make sure you have the whole thing. Budget in afew hundred extra to buy the parts that the idiot selling the kit didnt realize he was missing (sorry smokinhawk <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> )
other than that, yup.........i'd do it.

I got it from you no problem. there were a couple pieces that were missing that you didnt know about, but thats ok you were honest to the best of your knowelege. who knew that there were freaking power steering lines that costed $150 amoung everything.

yup, took me from july (i paid him in full on the 12th) to november 2nd to recienve the whole thing...just a bit of a pain. Dayum 16 year olds with mommies money... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
funny thing is, i bought the turbo, sold it for heads/cam.....i've since sold the cam and i traded the heads last nite for LS6 heads/ cash....
and im thinking of going FI again ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If i knew he had his engine still for sale i would have got it. but ive already got parts for mine, get the block back + new pistons today, $1700 just for that. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

i've also been talking to a guy about a 382lunati.....i've now got a set of ls6 heads....
im thinking cubes and nitrous.......
but its still tempting..

Re: Is it smart to buy a used turbo kit? Nothin to powerful on stock engine i was only using 5#. took out a head gasket.
So im forging out my engine as we speak.
once i complete that i hope to run 10-12# on pump gas and be pushing about 500rwhp
