Default Lower mounted Turbo guys, got question.

Do you guys/gals get a lil oil drainage that cause some residual smoke out the exhaust for a few minutes after WOT runs??? Been doing some research and just wondering if this is normal for lower mounted setups. Was told it is and just wanted to make sure. Dont think im getting blow by cuz the plugs looked good, no burnt oil on the plugs.

I could see a problem on hard de-accel. esp. with oil runnig to the front of the pan. Either you need a oil restrictor to the turbo or a scavaging pump.

Possibly a borderline seal issue? Or a scavenge issue. What you were told is normal is not.

im assuming you have the return set up as a gravity drain. If so it sounds like the oil isnt draining. My turbo is mounted lower than any other i have seen, but mine dosnt do that.

P.S. My turbo is under the driver side headlight

Pretty normal on my set up. After a WOT blast or sitting on a downward facing slope my car will puff a lil smoke but it will clear up after I start driving.

Hellraiser also had this issue on his kit as well.
My oil drain line isn't at the greatest angle, but it works pretty good. I don't have a scavange pump, but I do run a restricted feed line and that helped a lot. Restricted it to a .109 opening.

Fortunatly I was able to mount them at head height on my chevelle. I ran my -10 returns different then most people. While I have my motor apart, I came to the conclusion the best route for return is in the timing cover. After a 13 psi run I can slam on the brakes and get NO smoke!

I also run -4 out the oil filter fitting teed off to -3 into each turbo. No restrictor. The -3 line is restrictor enough.

Well i put the car up on jacks to get some picks for Rutan TA and i found that oil had dripped all over under there so i think some of the smoke is that burning off. Gonna put it on a rack tomorrow and see what the deal is

pictures of the timing cover please!! haha, my turbos are mounted at head height as well so that could be a nice alternative to what i was planning, also have -10 returns, and -4 feeds

If you have PCV issues and the block is getting pressurized at WOT it may not allow oil to gravity feed to the case. Then it just backs up and gets sucked through the turbo seals. What type PCV set up are you running?

Yeah I had the same problem at first. I opened up the return line more and put a restrictor in the feed line and everything cleared up.

I do not have a pic. I welded 1 -10 male fitting on each side of the balancer at about 2:00 & 10:00. The oil is always well above oil level that way.
