Default Questions by a Turbo Newbie!

I've been giving the turbo idea alot of thought the past few days. I've looked at the GMR, HI Flo, and Ground Zero kits. My question is, if I build a forged 347 add my GTP Stage 2 heads to obtain a 8.5:1 or so compression, a turbo cam (not sure of yet), how hard will it be to reach 500+ rwhp. And, how much maintenance, periodic tuning, adjusting, etc., is going to be involved. I don't want to create a money/time pit.

It would be a breeze, you can do that with a stock short block......with fuel mods and tuning.

if you only want 500hp, you wonty need to forge your block.

I'm going to utilize a forged block, for piece of mind, if I do it. What hp can I expect without make it unreliable?

For my 2nd question, how much maintenance is involved with keeping a 500+ turbo car streetable and track ready. I've heard it takes alot of constent adjusting and I've heard it doesn't.

well, I'm not going to speak about reliability, as my kit isn't going to be installed until this December, but I'm sure some of the other guys can give you some advice.

As far as the stock block goes, it will hold about 550rwhp pretty easily as long as you get it tuned well with no detonation. Anything over that is risking it really, you also aren't gonna wanna go past 7ish psi. On the other hand, I'm gonna run 9psi through it and hope for over 550rwhp. IMO the block will last a year (which is when i will forge my block) but I would not recommend that to anyone who isn't willing to buy another block.

To reach 500rwhp with a turbo kit will not be that hard. With what you want to build (347, heads, cam) 5 psi will get you over 500rwhp. As for the maintence, as long as you have no detination like said before..you will be fine. If you have a great tune, you can drive it everyday.

Thanks for all of the advice. I ordered the forged 347 yesterday from Trever @ texas Speed and I ordered the turbo kit from Bill @ Hi Flo. I felt most comfortable with Hi Flo's setup, I hope everything turns out.
