Default Should I change cams for blower?

I am getting an ati D1-sc soon and I have a 227/227 .564 .564 114lsa in my car now. Should I get a blower cam with a longer exhaust duration or should this one be fine? Would I gain horsepower changing it? I have everything in my sig and I have 42;b injectors and I am ordering a walbro 340. Is there anything else I should need and what kind of power should I be pushing with the mods I have with a stage 3 Gwp ati kit? I also have a 12 bolt with 4.30's in it, is this too much gear for a blown car?

you should be ok with that cam but a split duration and less of it would be nice. see "big cam with sc" you could save yourself some money and have yours re-ground.

Id keep it. The only thing you might want to do is advance the cam a couple of degrees. Superchargers seem to like that.

I am not an expert but that is just what I have read.

he was talkig about the cam, not ignition timing. i don't know about advancing the cam, might even contact the company that made it regarding what you want to do. you need to know if it has any advance built into it too. advancing timing would certainly contribute to detonation but you would have to try it to find out. not sure about re-grinding the cam price, someone mentioned it to me awhile back, sounded like more trouble than it was worth but a suggestion nevertheless. i'd still find a smaller cam if you can.

Blue

Advancing the cam opens the exhaust valve sooner which can help exhaust scavenging. I mentiond it because your considering getting a cam with more exhaust duration. This would be less work and money than changing cams.

TT

Youre right about checking the cam specs. My mms cam supposed to have 5 degrees of advance ground into the cam. Probably wouldnt be good to advance it anymore.

The duration is high for a blower cam, keeping it under 220 would be your best bet..

I went from a 230/227 .591/.571 112lsa to

214/218 .540/.550 114lsa

I'm very interested in this subject as well. I think I understand why you guys are saying to go with under 220 duration, but would it be wise to go with a slightly longer intake duration(222-224) and a 220 exhaust?

How about lift? No one has really been talking about lift and I'm curious what you guys think are ideal numbers and why.

Is 114 lsa considered the best angle for blown applications? Someone mentioned something called icl, what's that?

Sorry for the questions, I'm new to cams guys. I want one that delivers maximum power and is able to spin up to 7200 RPM(I'd like to shift at 7K). Very interested to hear what you guys think.

Mike

I know you want a big lsa like a 114, what is you went with a custom grind like a 224/230 with a 115 lsa? I would also like to know what the ideal lift would be too....Where are the cam gurus at when you need them??

Well Jim, over at speed inc. tought me a alot about blower cams...

My car should be done tomorrow, the heads came in, I should have updated dyno #'s tomorrow..
Going to be a big snow storm though, so I don't know if I'll take it home or not...

I haven't gotten a chance to drive it yet with the 214/218 .540/.550 114lsa 112icl

But the 230/227 .591/.571 112lsa cam I had had waaaaaaay to much over lap, and its reverse split...

I was told to keep the duration under 220 and the lift somewhat low, originally I wanted to go with a 226/228 .575/.585 114lsa for a blower cam, but learned more about them and decided to go with the smaller cam... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
