Default Smoking out the breather valve....

I took a look at my car today, I totally got rid of the PCV system and put a breather valve on the valve cover, and it smokes pretty good at idle..

I had 2 choices on what to do..

#1 put a base tune on it, and drive it home, but not ever be able to smash the pedal....

#2 throw it on the dyno, take the crap shoot, and hope it all goes well, and be able to have a car that drives normally, and I can mash the gas..

I went with #2, what do you guys think?

I had an issue with the car last time it was on the dyno with popping a head gasket, but since then I have new heads, and the compression has been dropped a full point...it will be dynoing on 93 octane...

I need some more opinions, what do you guys think??

I have been driving the car for about 15 miles now, gonna drive it more, probably like 100-200 miles in the next few days..

Im going to keep an eye on the oil, and how much it burns....I get a descent amount of oil that comes off the filter...

Prostock john had a lot of smoke when he did his breather valve, if the car is working fine in these next few days I might rig up a catch can...

But we will see, they threw it on the dyno, at 18 degrees of timing, it made 453rwhp and 540 something TQ, I had them only do one pull, I needed to take my car home..

Im plannin on building a motor as soon as I get more $$ anyways, I just need something to drive for the time being...

if you do away with your pcv system, there is no longer anything sucking air through the crankcase, so, seeing some smoke from the breather is normal. if you still have manifold vacuum attached and you are still getting alot of smoke, something is wrong. sounds like your rings or piston/cylinder clearance problems(blowby). nice numbers though! be nice to it until you get that new motor together, unless you have another vehicle.

iwould do or get a leakdown test done.. only way to know for sure..

from my experience, if its enough to push the dipstick out then you definitely have a problem.

Yea, the dipstick hasn't gotten pushed out yet...

I have put 40 miles on it so far...hasn't shown any signs of burning oil on the dipstick...but I can see where the drops have landed from the breather...

It should hold up until I get some dollars, hopefully I can still use the crank and stock block when I get the $...

Wish me luck...

I heard the BOV tonight, stood on it in 1st, then let off....the car feels FAST...

If you don't have a PCV system your oil will turn to muck quickly. You need to suck out the blowby gases. I work in auto repair and anytime we get a car with a clogged PCV system the oil gets that yellow snot buildup and sludge forms quickly.

Where are your breathers?

I had a small one in the back of the driver's side valve cover, and it would leak/spew when during track passes. The valve covers are pretty low... Oil splashes back.

I had one in the passenger side front area, the one that replaces the oil fill (Metco). That one would also occasionally have drops coming from it.

To me those are fire hazards. I stopped running them. I did put a fire extinguisher in the car.

I'd run pcv's running into a remote mounted catch can, and then run a line back into the pcv inlet on the intake OR WHATEVER you are supposed to do with an ATI blower.

With my upcoming supercharger setup I will probably run the crank evac setup that I have over here sitting in a box.

My breathers are in the same spot that yours were john, a small one at the rear of the drivers side valve cover, and a big one that replaces the oil cap...

The Big one on the passanger valvecover is the one that drips, I also carry a red canister w/me..

I'm gonna talk to izzo today about other possible alternatives..
