Default Turbo rpm's?

What is the highest potential RPM for the average turbocharger? Not the motor, the turbo itself.

What's an average turbocharger?

Just to ballpark, a smaller turbo could see 150k+, larger units, maybe 90k, max RPM, and approximations.

The highest we see with the big units is 130-140K on our compound twin turbo pulling tractors and trucks. But then again the turbos only last 2-3 pulls and sustain 150-200 psi of boost for 8-10 secs and over 300ft if your hooking ...then its rebuild time.

A pair of 91.5mm on our dyno ran between 45,000-58,000 to make 2500hp. I have a 67mm with a sensor, but I have never ran it.

Why do they need to rebuild so often? What gets damaged and what causes the damage?

Are there gauges that show impeller RPMs? Or, are the speeds just calculations?
