Default Cam for turbo ??

I'm putting a LS1 in my 67 Chevelle and have plans for a turbo. I've seen posts where people have used the stock cam but have also talked to those that recommend a "reverse split" cam with a higher LSA. I'm not building a track car, just something really cool for the street. My 67 should weigh in about 300Lb less than a stock Camaro.

Thoughts..opinions??

thanks

Get a turbo cam that is mated to your individual app.

I would go with the LS6 cam.It works really well with boost and is a inexpensive cam!If you want to go bigger than that maybe somthing in the low to mid 220s duration and 550to570lift with a 114 or a little higher LSA.Anything in that range would work fine.

Thanks

Anyone know off hand how much lift the stock valve springs will take?

You definitely need to upgrade your springs. Im looking at running patriot duals with a pretty mild cam (224/224 or smaller) for my turbo setup.

Yeah the springs are a definite weak link in the valve train....The max is somewhere around .520" lift or maybe a tad higher but they sure don't help with the valve float running higher rpms...It's kinda of insurance to just upgrade them so that you don't smash a valve against a piston..

I would design a camshaft that is intake duration biased. The exhaust side is not as important as the intake side. Our 226/220 cam works great. And if you want more TQ down low, then you can just go one step smaller in duration. I just got off the dyno today with a stock 346, our cam, GT 67, and our IC kit, made just under 540 on 8psi. The cool thing is it made the power all the way till 6600RPM.

That would be my next guess. Matter of fact, I ground that same cam in another turbo car as well.
