Default Heat shields

Want to fab up heat shields for my turbo headers. Question is stainless or aluminum and why. Seems like it would be too hot for aluminum but then seems like stainless would just be like a hot plate. Any input would be appreciated.

All of the OEM's use steel for exhaust/turbo heat shields (whether it be stainless or plated mild steel). It's going to be a poorer insulator than stainless, but I'm sure aluminum would work ok.

thin gauge stainless and a decent airgap will go a long way

Not to mention you can shine them up pretty

Ya, I was just thinking about the shields on big rig stacks with the grab handles. Im sure thats all thin stainless. I can laser cut some kind of geometric pattern in thin stainless also.

id say stainless as well it should reflect the heat better, with aluminum the heat will pass through it more.
