Default Vortech SC on LS1

Anyone here have one?!?! Been thinking about getting one and would like some feedback. Thinking of getting the 5-6PSI rather than the aftercooled model. Thanks.

Get it intercooled. A lot of people say "I do not want that much power", and then it goes out the window when they get smoked by a SRT-4 running 15 pounds of boost. Then you have to go back and order more parts. Do it right the first time. Get it intercooled.

My mods and info are in my signature. I couldn't be happier with the kit. I will agree though that it's worth going with the aftercooler setup. Your going to want more sooner or later....

What he said. It's also easier on your motor with the aftercooler.

Yea, I'll probably get it intercooled, just don't have the money to do it right now. Is it difficult to add a Intercooler after you've installed the SC?

It's not difficult but it's more of a pain in the butt, since you've already installed the hardware in a tight compartment.

Also, you'll end up throwing/selling some stuff from the 1st kit if you upgrade later, and you'll lose some bargaining power. The more you're spending the more leverage you have for a discount.

I'd rather save a while longer and do something right the first time.

No aftercooler her but water-alcohol injection.
In summer the charge air would go up to 180F but it stays at 80F injecting 6 gph of the mix.

I wanted a safe and long lasting setup, so I went with the "small" kit

How does the Vortech compare to a Procharger, in terms of price, performance, fitment and so on??

Wow 180F... not good.

Just save up for the aftercooled kit, you'll thank yourself later.

180F without intercooler at WOT. 80F with water-alcohol injection.
It allows to run leaner (12.5 : 1) and reduces (eliminate) KR.
What is the IAT at WOT of an aftercooled Vortech or an intercooled ATI?

If I had to do it again I would install a blow-through MAF system. In the original Vortech system the air is recirculated through the bypass valve and gets hot. In a blow-through system you always have fresh air that cools the system.

YOU MEAN AFTERCOOLED. The Aftercooler is an air to water design. I datalogged my temps after flogging on my car for about 2 hours, tuning at w.o.t.
My iat temps were 90-95 degrees.

My tranny temps, well that's another story,

maybe im just needlessly whining but how much more impossible is changing your spark plugs at this point? i would really prefer the driveability of a blower over heads and cam but the total and complete obstruction of the engine by the aftercooler is the only think keeping me from doing this. id like to be able to work on it myself just a little without having to take the whole thing apart. nature of the beast i guess

i notice your airbox lid also says vortech, does the kit require the use of their supplied lid or can i retain my slp stuff?

see those clamps? all the piping comes off very easily maybe adding another 15 minutes to your spark plug change.

the vortech kit requires the use of the stock air lid. You can probably use your slp air lid but you'll have to get a custom pipe made and either mate it up to the accordion looking dryer tube or go with a nice silicon hose.

i have a vortech kit, its not that hard to take the kit apart. fairly simple actually.

blower>heads/cam

In the original VOrtech setup the IAT sensor is placed in the intake elbow.
Mine is just before the throttle body. Where is yours?

Here another possibility for the fiter (a FIPK). Notice also the nozzle for the water-alcohol injection
