Default Heads???

I have a 347 forged motor and Im running 12-15 psi with my custom GT42 76mm setup.I have stock heads and Im wondering if some CnC heads would help much.It seems like it would be much more efficient..Ive been looking at stage 2.5 cnc heads with 2.04 valves. What have you guys seen or gained from going to bigger heads???

I would probably work over a set of 6.0L heads and call it good.

I noticed your car is a 98.... are you using stock 98 heads?

ya you could look into some ported 6.0L heads, should give you asome gains and perhaps drop your CR a tad bit more so you can run a little more boost,

i am in the same boat. i am building a 408/T88 setup. i am in the market for heads now. i dont what i am leaning towards. i look at the threads like the tiwn setup with a 370 and stock 6.0L heads with springs making over 700rwhp, and then threads where 408's with ARF225 heads make 800+rwhp at 14lbs. i dont know what to get.

I'm also looking into some 6.0 heads but when have you guys been experiencing the heads lifting?? I'm looking to push 15-17psi out of a PTE88 and I'm shooting for 850rwhp out of a 370ci iron block...If these bad boys will work then i'll go that route but if I'm a couple $100 shy of just buying some AFR\ET heads then I should just go ahead and go that route...

I agree some AFR225 heads with 72cc chamberswould be great. I have however called several sponsors and priced ported 6.0L heads for $500-800 cheaper than the AFR's with similar flow numbers. I have also talked to several members about buying some used heads for $1000-1300 that aslo fall in the performance range I am looking to get.

I dont know wheater to go with some cheaper heads and spend that extra $$$ on other things, or go with the AFR's and be done with it.

Make sure to look at the Dart heads too. They are competitively priced against a set of LQ9 heads and have a thicker deck. TSP has been porting them with some great results too.

Do you think that we could have the 62cc milled out to a 72cc?? I don't know if it would be worth it though...Just wondering

I had a 98ls1 in the car before sending it GMR. Supposedly the 98 heads flow less than the 99+ AND they have some grooves or channels in them that allows the headgaskets to blow much easier in FI. We decided to start from the ground up on the motor.

That's what I'm doing...I'm staying clear of the 98 heads for sure and doing a later model head...

I have P&P 98 heads on my 99. I had the notches welded up and then re-surfaced. I am using the GM MLS gaskets on my 383. Still waiting on my kit so havent run it yet but I've been running these heads for 3 years now.

If you swapped on ported heads, you would make the same power but with less boost. That allows folks to turn up the boost. An engine with ported heads needing less boost to say hit 600rhwp will not run as hot as one running 2-3more psi to hit the same number.
