You should just go ahead and get this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-sales-specials/471072-w2w-march-special.html

Deal of a lifetime and built by one of the top LS1 builders in the world, IMO.

they are not low CR shortblocks though since they have flat tops.

well cylinder pressure was 115 in far back on drivers side, #7 i believe. and 170 on #2, first on passenger side. we then put oil in the cylinder and rechecked 7 and it went up to 170. old school trick my grandpa showed me. said it would seal the cylinder and it apperently did. still couldnt determine where the knock was at, sounded like it was on the passenger side but i know that sound travles so who really knows. is my next step a new shortblock or what?

could be a rod bearing. Since you have cylinder pressure in all the cylinders. Mine would get louder when I would rev it up.

Yep, compression is off from what it should be. Most likely torched rings/ringlands. That's a dickload of power for stock shortblock.

Futral can do a forged shortblock with your car, stock crank, for $27XX to whatever CR you'd want.

I'd opt for the W2W turbo pistons in it, though.

Daniel, here's the quote from Futral a while back when I was considering FI:

A forged 347 shortblock using your core:
-Diamond boost pistons
-Manley Sportsman rods 6.125"
-Mahle rings
-Federal Mogul bearings
-ARP main studs
-bore and stress hone
-balanced,blueprinted and assembled

$2799.99

*add $250.00 for line boring mains if needed.

Welcome to the broken #7 piston club if the compression is that far down on that cylinder. If the rockers and pushrods are OK on that cylinder and the lifters are moving up and down just pull the head and see.

It will sound like a loud tapping when the piston is in a couple pieces. Hopefully you didnt crack your block like I did but I know that sound well

Who knows, people blame it on the intake but seeing its port fuel injected the less air it supposedly gets in the rear the richer it should be. Mostly wet N2o kits kill them, thats how I got mine. Kurt at W2W mentioned they tried a motor on the dyno with the intake reversed and #7 was still a problem so who knows, could be that cylinder runs hotter, gets an air pocket in the coolent, who knows, but you were pushing the stock pistons way too hard.

I would grab one of those w2w short blocks and use some 72cc heads and MLS gaskets, should get you around 9:1 or so if those pistons have 2cc releifs. Thats a good deal on those motors..

i know that the rings being bad can cause the knock but it does sound like a valvetrain issue and i know that that cylinder is down on compression but its above what the book says it should be. anyother suggestions?

It needs an engine rebuild, even if it's not something internal, that power will not last long with a stock bottom end (esp stock pistons/rods/rings).

I honestly believe, a professionally assembled shortblock, with turbo pistons, forged rods, prepped crank, block that is torque plate honed, balanced/bp, the setup would be dead nuts awesome and fun.

This is why I'm leaving my ZO6 stock. Once you start, you really do set off a chain of events that, unless done, will cause you a lot more $ in the long term.

Doesn't sound good. I have not seen too many lifter failures but I guess you never know.
